The first Group 1 meeting of the season, Memsie Stakes Day features a bumper nine race program including Race 4 at 2:10pm (AEST) with the three-year-olds facing off in the $150,000 Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m).

Eleven runners are set to face off in the race that serves as a nice lead-up to the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) back at the track on October 10, with regular rider Dale Smith to ride Prince Of Brooklyn first-up from a gun barrier four draw.

A winner of both his starts to date, the Magnus colt is a $26 hope in the pre-field Caulfield Guineas odds at, which will shorten dramatically if he wins his first run of the season on Saturday when up to black-type company for the first time.

Price has also accepted for Ready For Victory drawn one on his stablemate’s inside with barrier three and Mark Zahra booked for the ride.

The More Than Ready colt is the shortest priced HDF McNeil Stakes runner in Caulfield Guineas betting at $11 to win the Group 1 despite not having raced since a seventh to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 6.

Before that he won the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) at Flemington in his race debut and finished a brave fourth beaten under two lengths by Golden Rose – Caulfield Guineas favourite Vancouver in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill.

Also drawn well in the McNeil Stakes on Saturday is the Peter Moody-trained Gold Symphony in barrier two with big race specialist Glen Boss to ride the Reward For Effort colt.

A winner of two of his three starts to date, Gold Symphony was last seen taking out the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 15 with Boss aboard and so shoots for back-to-back Group victories this weekend.

Another youngster coming off a nice win last time out is the Ciaron Maher-trained Brockhoff who jumps from gate nine with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

The son of Lonhro broke his maiden starts at Bairnsdale on August 18 with a good two length win over 1000m and runs over further than that for the first time on Saturday.

Other notable HDF McNeil Stakes hopefuls this spring include the John O’Shea-trained New Approach gelding Demonstrate with the outside alley to overcome, Vain Stakes runner-up Top Me Up for Team Hawkes and Doug Harrison’s improving Dane Shadow filly Stream Ahead with the rails run from gate one as she takes on the boys.
