One of a host of support acts on the Melbourne race card this weekend, the Cockram Stakes is registered this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival as the $150,000 Group 3 William Hill Sprint Series Heat 1 Stakes (1200m).

The set weights plus penalties clash for mares features 28 nominations including Northern Meteor five-year-old Cosmic Endeavour who hasn’t won since her half-length victory over Catkins in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick back in March.

She ran a disappointing 14th in two more Group 1s after that during the autumn before a last start fifth to her stablemate Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 11.

She has twice trialled at Randwick since then including a 1250m victory over Bohemian Lily on August 10 and looks set for a good return in the Cockram.

After Cosmic Endeavour the other highest rated Cockram Stakes nominees this season include the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Bounding, Griante and Hazard.

The super-consistent Bounding is yet to run outside the top two boasting seven wins and six seconds from her 14 career starts to date.

A five-year-old daughter of Lonhro, she missed the autumn but looks race fit after two good trials at Rosehill this month including a narrow victory on August 17 where she beat home Group 1 winner Happy Galaxy over 1030m.

Her last official start was a second at Flemington last November in the Group 3 GH Mumm Stakes (1100m) and Saturday will be her maiden look at Caulfield.

Bounding is one of a host of mares who are dually nominated on the Caulfield card this weekend also holding an entry for the $150,000 Group 3 The Heath 1100m Stakes (1100m) in open-gender company.

Another dual nominee for both sprint races, Griante is looking to atone for her disappointing first-up ninth to Setinum at the track on August 15 in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m).

The David Brideoake-trained Good Journey mare was on fire during the autumn though including a third to Lucky Hussler in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley and a second to Avoid Lightning in Randwick’s Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in April.

Hazard represents Godolphin and is prepared by Lee & Anthony Freedman, the six-year-old daughter of Flying Spur boasting three previous Caulfield wins from eight runs.

She won three on the trot during a strong winter prep including the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 before her distant sixth to Srikandi in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) on the Gold Coast a fortnight later in her latest start.

Other headline Cockram Stakes entries include the Robbie Griffiths-trained Nadeem Lass, Group 1 performer Miss Steele and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Miss Promiscuity coming off a July 4 win at the track in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m).

A winner of two of her previous four Caulfield runs, five-year-old Magnus mare Miss Promiscuity won the Monash by nearly three lengths from barrier 12 of 12 and is livewire hope of going back-to-back this Saturday.

Check out the full 2015 William Hill Sprint Series Heat 1 Stakes nominations below, staying tuned for the final field and barrier draw on Wednesday morning.
