Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Peter Moody’s last start Vain Stakes winner Gold Symphony is one of the headline nominations for the HDF McNeil Stakes 2015 at Melbourne’s Memsie Stakes Day meeting this weekend.
The Caulfield card features a host of black-type races on Saturday including the $150,000 Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds.
Among the top entries for the set weights plus penalties race is Moody’s smart Reward For Effort colt Gold Symphony who has won two of his three career starts.
His latest start was at Caulfield on August 15 when he stepped up to stakes company for the first time in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m), a race he won by half a length with Glen Boss in the saddle.
He will shoot for back-to-back Group 3 wins this weekend ahead of a possible October 10 run back at the track in the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) over the mile, a race he pays a juicy $41 to win through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The shortest priced of the HDF McNeil Stakes nominees in early Caulfield Guineas betting this spring is the Mick Price-trained Ready For Victory who pays $11 in the futures markets for the upcoming Group 1.
The More Than Ready colt won a black-type over 1000m at Flemington on debut before a brave fourth when beaten under two lengths by Gai Waterhouse’s star colt Vancouver in the $3 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) during the autumn.
He failed in his latest assignment that campaign when seventh in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m, but first-up the 1200m this weekend should be flying.
Price also has his undefeated colt Prince Of Brooklyn nominated for the McNeil on the weekend, the son of Magnus having won both his starts during the winter including the Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) on debut in Adelaide.
A $26 2015 Caulfield Guineas chance, Mr Individual is another notable HDF McNeil Stakes entry.
Prepared by Leon & Troy Corstens, the son of Starspangledbanner won on debut over 1100m at Bendigo in early June and hasn’t raced since, so how the colt handles a black-type start this weekend will be key to his chances in the upcoming features.
Group 1 winning trainer Ciaron Maher has nominated for two livewire chances this weekend in Bon Aurum and Brockhoff, both handicap rated on 63.
Bon Hoffa colt Bon Arum won at Geelong two back before a 1400m third at Flemington behind Most Wanted on August 8 while Lonhro colt Brockhoff won over 1000m last time out at Bairnsdale in an eye-catching display.
Other notable HDF McNeil Stakes nominees including the John O’Shea-trained Demonstrate who has had eight starts so far including a Vain Stakes fourth when beaten only one and a quarter lengths, John Sadler’s Lonhro gelding Star Planet who ran third in the same lead-up race, Blue Diamond performed Stoker and progressive Dane Shadow filly Stream Ahead.
