2015 Up And Coming Stakes Tips & Selections

Racing at Royal Randwick’s Warwick Stakes Day kicks off on Saturday with the three-year-olds facing off in the Up And Coming Stakes 2015, betting tips on the handicap clash detailed below.

Sebring Sun

There are eight three-year-olds in the mix for this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) including the firm $2.60 favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au Sebring Sun.

Drawn in gate five with Hugh Bowman riding, the Gary Portelli-trained Sebring colt has won his past two on the trot including the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at the track from August 8.

A host of other Group 1 spring bound youngsters follow very closely in the Up And Coming Stakes odds including the rails-drawn Shards ($5) coming off a Rosehill win from mid-June, Rosebud runner-up Voilier ($5.50) jumping one wider from barrier two and the early market mover Cannyescent ($6) who won on debut last start at Goulburn.

So can Sebring Sun get the job done and salute for the punters or is there value further down the Up And Coming Stakes markets for an upset result on Saturday afternoon?

1st

#1 Sebring Sun ($2.60)

Think the favourite is hard to beat in the first on a card that could be full of upsets. Portelli’s Sebring colt is on the improve and continues to rise to the challenge. He broke his maiden status two back first-up at Canterbury then did a good job winning The Rosebud by a length. He sees the 1300m for the first time here but looks like he’ll appreciate the metres on way to the Golden Rose. A promising type living up to his potential and is still the one to beat even with the weight.

2nd

#4 Inner Circle ($9)

Liking the run of Inner Circle first-up and think the Godolphin-raced Street Cry colt adds some value here. The John O’Shea-trained galloper was third behind Let’s Make It Rain at Canterbury over 1250m in the wet and is Group 2 performed as a juvenile. He will improve off what he did in his resuming run and will be fitter for it, plus coming onto a firmer track off the Heavy (9) should also boost his winning chances here.

3rd

#3 Shards ($5)

O’Shea’s other runner gets things his way from barrier one with top Sydney-based hoop James McDonald booked to ride the nicely bred son of Medaglia D’Oro. This is the progressive colt’s first black-type assignment, but he’ll get the lead up front so if he can hold them he can finish off in the top three no worries.
