It may have attracted only a small field this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, but Saturday’s Silver Shadow Stakes 2015 is still shaping up as a top clash and betting tips on the three-year-old fillies’ feature detailed right here.
There are just six in the mix for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), the fillies-only sprint jumping as Race 4 at Randwick on Warwick Stakes Day at 2:25pm (AEST).
Leading the Silver Shadow Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $3.20 and firming is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock Lake Geneva.
She is a dual Group 1 third placegetter from the autumn with nice runs in the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper Stakes as a two-year-old, and also comes off a good first-up run when third over 1000m at Hawkesbury from the start of the month.
Set to handle better class than that as she improves fitness-wise, Lake Geneva looks hard to beat over the 1200m this weekend jumping from barrier three with top hoop Tommy Berry booked for the ride.
Her main dangers in the Silver Shadow Stakes betting markets according to the bookies are the flying Gai Waterhouse-trained Kimberley Star ($3.60) shooting for her fourth win on the trot, and the rails-drawn Speak Fondly ($4.80) who also represents Waterhouse and who shoots for her first win since taking out the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in mid-March.
So do the bookies have it right or is there an upset Silver Shadow Stakes result on the agenda from an outside hope such as Gerald Ryan’s returning Group 3 winning daughter of Snitzel Fireworks ($7)?
#4 Kimberley Star ($3.60)
Never bet against an in-form filly, and this daughter of Star Witness is flying. She has won all three of her starts this time in starting at Warwick Farm at the start of July through until her latest victory over 1400m at Rosehill defeating More Than Fabulous by three lengths on August 1. She goes up in class for Saturday’s assignment, but is more than deserving of a shot at black-type. So far she’s got a good Randwick record (3-1-1-0) and while her latest two wins have been over 1400m, she can still salute over the 1200m with the right run this weekend form Tim Clark.
#3 Lake Geneva ($3.20)
Plenty of boxes ticked by the favourite who has form against some of the best of this current crop of three-year-olds from last campaign. She was third in the Blue Diamond and the Slipper and won her first-up assignment in non black-type company on August 6 to kick off this prep. From three 1200m runs she boast three thirds, so think she’ll definitely be in the money in this small field on the weekend second-up. Won’t be much in the finish either and she’ll improve on whatever she does here with the Group 1 spring features calling.
#6 Kangarilla Joy ($6.50)
For a bit of value in a market without much, the debut of this nicely bred Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Lonhro filly last time out was good enough to suggest she’ll handle better company this weekend in just her second career run. She narrowly held off her rivals over 1100m at Warwick Farm on August 5 to kick things off in good style and gets the chance to prove herself this weekend.
