Lake Geneva Leads Silver Shadow Stakes 2015 Odds

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes’s dual Group 1 placed Lake Geneva is set to jump narrow favourite in the 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes at Royal Randwick this weekend as part of the Warwick Stakes Day action.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock is one of only six three-year-old fillies facing off in this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), the set weights plus penalties clash running as Randwick Race 4 at 2:25pm (AEST) on Saturday afternoon.

Drawn in barrier three with Tommy Berry to ride, Lake Geneva comes off a first-up win over 1000m at Hawkesbury from August 6 and is a dual Group 1 third placegetter from her top autumn campaign earlier in the year.

She was beaten two lengths by Pride Of Dubai in Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes in late February before putting in another brave run in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds in Sydney in April when crossing closer again this time to Vancouver in the Golden Slipper.

Now she looks for back-to-back wins to kick off her spring campaign that has her tracking towards a Melbourne run at Caulfield Racecourse on October 10 in the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) over the mile.

Currently Lake Geneva is paying $3.20 in the Silver Shadow Stakes markets after firming in from $3.50, making her the narrow favourite over close second fancy Kimberley Star ($3.60).

Gai Waterhouse prepares the in-form Kimberley Star who shoots for her fourth win on the trot in Saturday’s clash.

Tim Clark rides the daughter of Star Witness from barrier five taking over for Blake Shinn who has guided her to victory three times on the trot this campaign including her impressive three length effort over More Than Fabulous last time out over 1400m at Rosehill on August 1.

Waterhouse also saddles-up third pick, market mover Speak Fondly ($5 into $4.60) who jumps from barrier one with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

The nicely-bred daughter of Northern Meteor races for the first time since a below par 11th in the Golden Slipper on March 21, before which she was three times placed in black type company including her Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) victory.

She has had two trials post-Slipper for a win on July 20 and a second behind Group 1 winner Temple Of Boom over 840m on July 31, both at Randwick where she runs first-up on Saturday.

Also at single figures in a wide open betting feature where the longest priced hope is only paying $10 are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Lonhro filly Kangarilla Joy ($6) having her second start after a winning debut last time out over 1100m at Warwick Farm and Gerald Ryan’s Group 3 winning Snitzel filly Fireworks ($7) who ran 13th in the Slipper last start.

Rounding out the Silver Shadow Stakes field and betting is then the John O’Shea-trained daughter of Domesday Italy ($10), Glen Boss riding her from the outside alley in her first black-type start since a ninth to Takedown in a 1400m Group 3 back in late March.
