Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gai Waterhouse’s last start winner at the track Echo Gal has opened favourite to win the 2015 Toy Show Quality at Randwick Racecourse this weekend.
The four-year-old daughter of Stratum is one of nine fillies and mares set to face off in the second on Warwick Stakes Day in Sydney on Saturday, the $125,000 Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) due to jump at 1:15pm (AEST).
In the latest Toy Show Quality odds on the handicap clash at Ladbrokes.com.au, Echo Gal pays $3.60 to go back-to-back at Randwick with Tim Clark riding her from barrier four.
She comes off an August 8 victory in a 1200m handicap where she beat home the Chris Waller-trained Holy Delusions (2nd) and Wine Tales (3rd) by two and a quarter and three and a quarter lengths respectively.
This weekend in a wide open Toy Show Quality betting market, Echo Gal is one of five single figure hopes with the next best fancied being one of the placegetters behind her last time out Wine Tales ($4.80).
Waller’s Tale Of The Cat four-year-old was third first-up at the start of the month and has a good second-up record of one win and two seconds from three runs that she’ll be looking to build on this weekend.
The Group 1 performer has James McDonald jumping aboard for the Toy Show rematch and shoots for her first victory at start number five at Randwick.
Close third favourite at $5 is then the fellow Waller-trained Amicus in barrier seven for jockey Hugh Bowman.
The Fastnet Rock mare is yet to finish in the money at Randwick but has twice run third in three previous first-up runs over her 12 start career, the four-year-old last seen running a distant 13th of 15 runners behind Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 11.
The last of the hopefuls under $10 for the Toy Show win this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival are then the rails-drawn Two Blue ($6) who carries the 58.5kg top weight with Blake Shinn in the saddle and Waller’s third runner Kristy Lee ($7.50).
Kristin Buchanan’s Wyong-trained Dubleo seven-year-old may have the hefty kilos to cart but her lead-up form is strong with seconds to Haussmann and Rugged Cross respectively in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) and Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) on Heavy Rosehill tracks last month.
Kristy Lee has Tye Angland riding from a gun gate two draw, the six-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago on the short seven-day turnaround after a third to odds-on favourite Peeping in the Fairfield RSL Club Handicap (1200m) last weekend.
The Toy Show Quality market mover and value bet meanwhile is Fine Bubbles ($11 into $10) jumping from barrier three with Brenton Avdulla down for the mount.
Kris Lees’ Casino Prince mare ran fifth to Countryman over 1300m at Rosehill last start and has a good record over Saturday’s distance (11-3-4-1), the six-year-old after her first win since the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at her home Newcastle track in September last year.
