Due to jump as Randwick Race 1 at 12:35pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) has attracted an eight-horse final field with Sebring Sun to wear the number one saddlecloth.

Shooting for a hat-trick of wins on the trot this time in, Sebring colt Sebring Sun won first-up at Canterbury on July 29 before taking out the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 8.

He shoots for back-to-back Randwick wins then but is up over 1200m for the first time as he heads towards a run at Rosehill in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 14, a Sydney Spring Racing Carnival feature he currently pays $21 through to win.

On Saturday Sebring Sun jumps from barrier five with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Runner-up to Sebring Sun in The Rosebud last time out, the Gary Nickson-trained Beneteau gelding Voilier is also set to back up in the Up And Coming Stakes.

Runner-up to Headwater in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) back in February, Voilier was beaten a length in The Rosebud and will be out to turn the tables this weekend with Blake Shinn booked for the ride from gate two.

Along with Sebring Sun the other two last start winners in the line-up are the returning John O’Shea-trained Shards and the lightly raced Cannyescent drawn in barriers one and seven respectively.

The rails-drawn Shards won over 1350m at Rosehill on June 13 and so is proven over this kind of distance, O’Shea and the Godolphin stable also accepting for Street Cry colt Inner Circle who comes off a third behind Let’s Make It Rain at Canterbury from July 25 in the mud.

Cannyescent meanwhile only debuted on August 4 at Goulburn where the gelding won by a length and a half in easier company, his Warwick Farm-based trainer Gabrielle Englebrecht keen to see how he handles the rise in class this weekend.

The other Up And Coming Stakes hopefuls this year are the Gerald Ryan-trained Fastnet Rock colt Land’s End, Rosebud fifth placed Tatoosh and Luke Price’s son of Manhattan Rain Man Of Choice.
