Aomen Ready for Show County Quality Return

Anthony Cummings will saddle two runners in Saturday’s Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick, but is particularly pleased with the condition of Group 1 prospect Aomen leading into the race.

Posting seven wins and a further four minors through 29 career starts so far, Aomen was unable to make much of a competitive impact through his most recent campaign through summer and autumn, and has not been seen at the races since finishing seventh in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast on April 25th.

The seven-year-old has reportedly taken well to his time away from racing and Cummings is confident the conditions of the 2015 Show County Quality figure as an ideal first point of call for the horse, having also included him in nominations for the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m).

“I’ve accepted with him in the shorter race – the Show County Quality,” Cummings told Racing Ahead.

“His trial the other day was very good and I think there’s a fair bit of depth in the weight-for-age race so we’ll take the easier option.

“He seems to be a sharper horse than he showed in his form in Hong Kong and effective at the shorter course, especially first-up last time.

“I think he’s come back sharper again this time and he’ll be competitive at least on Saturday.”

Yet to set a specific path for Aomen through the 2015 Spring Carnival, Cummings revealed he would like to have the gelding at full fitness for the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) on October 3rd, and will consider a Cox Plate berth should form and results warrant an appearance.

“The grand plan is to go towards the Epsom and he is nominated for the Cox Plate,” Cummings said.

“He would need to find his best form plainly to make that a sensible thing but if you’re not in, you can’t win.”

Undoubtedly requiring some luck in running after being allocated the somewhat wide and awkward barrier 9, Aomen has been confirmed to be partnered by veteran, Hall of Fame hoop Glen Boss in the Show County Quality. is currently offering the best odds on all Randwick races this weekend, including the Show County Quality!
