Chris Waller’s undefeated colt Press Statement is set to resume racing in the Up And Coming Stakes 2015 at Royal Randwick this Saturday as he heads towards the Group 1 spring features.
A quality handicap for three-year-olds, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) has attracted a dozen entries with nominations extended until 11am (AEST) on Tuesday morning.
Leading the current entries is the Waller-trained son of Hinchinbrook, Press Statement having won his opening three starts to date including the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) over the Doomben mile in Brisbane last time out on June 6.
He is yet to race at Randwick, but before his trip to Queensland Press Statement enjoyed wins at both Canterbury and Rosehill and so has a strong record at home in Sydney.
Press Statement is heading towards a run in the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 12 and pays $10 in the early markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
He is also nominated for Melbourne’s $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) over the mile on October 10 and also pays $10 as the third favourite behind Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper champ Vancouver ($4) and San Domenico Stakes winner from last Saturday Japonisme ($8) to win.
Waller also has Devil Hawk nominated for the Up And Coming Stakes, the Purrealist colt coming off a first-up Canterbury win over 1250m from last Wednesday.
Also coming off a win along with the Waller duo are Cannyescent who won on debut at Goulburn last time out, the John O’Shea-trained Medaglia D’Oro colt Shards last seen taking out a handicap over 1350m at Rosehill on June 13 and Gary Portelli’s Sebring Sun.
Three-year-old Sebring colt Sebring Sun has won both his starts this time in, the latest of which was the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 8.
He is tracking towards a start in the 2015 Golden Rose and is a $21 shot for the feature.
The horses that finished second and third to Sebring Sun in The Rosebud are also nominated to back-up in the Up And Coming Stakes on Saturday with runner-up Voilier, who was runner-up in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) back in February, and third placed Not A Single Doubt colt Let’s Make It Rain both also in the mix.
Last year’s Up And Coming Stakes winner Scissor Kick went on to run second to Hallowed Crown in the Golden Rose, so the form coming out of this year’s race is sure to affect betting for the Group 1.
The 2015 Up And Coming Stakes field and barriers are out on Wednesday morning and will be published right here at Races.com.au so stay tuned.
In the meantime head along to Ladbrokes.com.au, sign-up, deposit and quote the code SPRINGBONUS to enjoy up to $500 in bonus bets for a limited time only!
