Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gai Waterhouse’s flying filly Kimberley Star is the headline nominee for the Silver Shadow Stakes 2015 at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday, the three-year-old shooting for her fourth win on the trot if accepted.
The key support race on the Warwick Stakes Day program in Sydney, nominations for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) have been extended until 11:00am (AEST) on Tuesday morning.
Currently just eight three-year-old fillies are nominated for the set weights plus penalties clash, including Waterhouse’s in-form daughter of Star Witness Kimberley Star.
A winner of three of her seven starts, the up-and-comer was last seen making it a hat-trick of victories when beating home More Than Fabulous by three lengths over 1400m at Rosehill on August 1.
She has had three previous Randwick runs for a win and second place finish and is nominated for the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne this October.
In the futures Thousand Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au Kimberley Star pays $26 for the win.
The shortest-priced filly in the all-in Thousand Guineas betting markets nominated for the Silver Shadow Stakes in Sydney this weekend is Lake Geneva ($15) from the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes stables.
The Fastnet Rock filly ran third to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last February and was also third to Vancouver in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (12000m) at Rosehill in March.
She returned to racing this season on August 6 at Hawkesbury and won first-up over 1000m ahead of her second-up run this weekend where she’ll shoot for her first success over further than that after breaking her maiden status last time out.
The other two most notable 2015 Thousand Guineas-bound fillies nominated for Saturday are then Waterhouse’s other runner Speak Fondly and the Gerald Ryan-trained Fireworks.
A daughter of Northern Meteor, Speak Fondly was runner-up in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm in the autumn before her narrow win in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m).
She finished a disappointing 11th in the Golden Slipper at her last start but has trialled well twice at Randwick since for a 735m win in the mud and a second behind Group 1 winning veteran Temple Of Boom over 840m on July 31.
Fireworks is another Slipper graduate returning to racing for the spring this weekend, the Snitzel filly having won the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) in late January before a third behind subsequent Golden Slipper runner-up English and then her 13th in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds. J
Other notable Silver Slipper Stakes nominees include the John O’Shea-trained daughter of Domesday Italy and Tempt Me Not for Bart & James Cummings who comes off a second behind last weekend’s San Domenico Stakes winner Japonisme over 1100m at Rosehill on August 1.
