Gai Waterhouse’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Amanpour is one of the headline nominations taken for the Toy Show Quality 2015 at Royal Randwick’s Warwick Stakes Day in Sydney on Saturday.
One of five Group features on the program, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) has attracted 13 early entries with nominations extended until 11am (AEST) on Tuesday morning.
A host of smart fillies and mares are in the mix for both the Toy Show Quality as well as one or more other races on the card including the day’s feature – the $250,000 Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m).
Dual nominees for both races include the Waterhouse-trained Amanpour as well as Chris Waller’s 2013 ATC Oaks winner Royal Descent.
Five-year-old Northern Meteor mare Amanpour was last seen winning the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at the Randwick track on April 11 where she beat home the Waller-trained Catkins by nearly two lengths.
Waller’s perennial Group 1 placegetter Royal Descent meanwhile is entered for the Warwick Stakes, Toy Show Quality and the $125,000 Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) on Saturday.
She hasn’t won a race since her 2013 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) success as a three-year-old, but the now six-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare enjoyed a stellar autumn including two Group 1 thirds at Randwick in the Doncaster Mile and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes last preparation.
Also nominated for the Toy Show Quality for Waller are Fastnet Rock four-year-old Amicus, the in-form Kristy Lee and Wine Tales who is second-up if accepted.
Amicus hasn’t raced since her 13th to Amanpour in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes but comes off a nice Warwick Farm trial behind stablemate Hawkspur over 809m from last Friday.
Kristy Lee is a six-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago and she has run second or third in all five of her starts this campaign including her third to Peeping over 1200m at Rosehill last Saturday.
Tale Of The Cat four-year-old Wine Tales meanwhile returned to racing on August 8 at Randwick over 1200m and finished a brave third to Echo Gal, another Toy Show Quality hopeful on the weekend, in her first run since crossing seventh to Delicacy in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) in early May at Morphettville.
Other notable Toy Show Quality nominees include John Thompson’s 2014 Flight Stakes winner First Seal who has a top record at Randwick (5-2-2-0), Kristen Buchanan’s in-form seven-year-old Two Blue coming off back-to-back Listed seconds at Rosehill from July and Gust Of Wind.
John Sargent prepares Darci Brahma four-year-old Gust Of Wind who has won three of her five starts to date, most recently taking out this year’s ATC Oaks with a two and a half length effort over Winx.
