Jalan Jalan Ready for Quezette Stakes Test

Jalan Jalan will undoubtedly face the biggest test of her short racing career in Saturday’s Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, but trainer Colin Little believes the filly has more than earned her shot at black type company and is confident of a competitive performance.

Jalan Jalan debuted to racing for an impressive win in the Wow Signal @ Swettenham Handicap (1000m) on May 20th; progressing to a credible third in the Ted Rainford Plate (1100m) before producing undoubtedly her most convincing performance to date when running away for a three length win in the Flemington Family Handicap (1200m) last time out on July 18th.

Thrilled with the condition of the daughter of Foreplay since her first recent appearance, Little told Racing Ahead he is confident the filly is ready for her maiden tilt at Group level on Saturday.

“She’s great – she’s very strong and we’ve just been waiting around for this race actually,” Little said.

“I thought about trialling her Monday at Cranbourne just to keep her ticking over but when it was a heavy 10 I decided not to go there.

“She had a good gallop on the course proper on Tuesday and we’re very happy with her, she’s rock-solid with no issues whatsoever.

“She won her first and was pretty unlucky behind a very good horse second start. Then she went to Flemington and proved too good.”

Jalan Jalan will leave from barrier 7 with Chad Schofield aboard in the Quezette Stakes, and Little revealed he will instruct the in-form hoop to ride the horse off pace before launching a final straight assault.

“Obviously the worry is Petits Filous – Ollie (jockey Damien Oliver) defected to ride her so he thinks she’s the better horse but we’ll find out on Saturday,” Little said.

“On race day she settles, gets back and that will stand her in good stead to get a bit of ground.

“She’ll just have to get back as she does, and we’re not going to ride her differently just because it’s 1100m.

“If we can give her a chance to settle and get home, she’ll get a lot more distance.”
