A smart field of promising three-year-old fillies will face off on PB Lawrence Stakes Day in Melbourne this Saturday with the field and betting markets for the Quezette Stakes 2015 now out.
Due to jump at 3:20pm (AEST) as Caulfield Race 6 this weekend, the $150,000 Group 3 Lister Quezette Stakes (1100m) has attracted a final field of 13 young female gallopers heading towards some of the three-year-old majors of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
Red hot favourite in the latest Quezette Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Ciaron Maher-trained Petits Filous drawn a treat mid field in barrier six with Damien Oliver booked to ride the undefeated daughter of Street Boss.
Sitting $2 in the markets to keep her unbeaten record intact, Petits Filous won by an impressive six lengths on debut at Moonee Valley in the wet on July 15 over 1000m before returning to the same track and distance on August 1 to win again this time by two lengths over Stream Ahead – Oliver aboard for both victories.
Just three of Petits Filous’s rivals are also under double figures to take out the Quezette Stakes this weekend including dual winner Jalan Jalan ($5.50) drawn one outside the favourite in barrier seven with Chad Schofield in the saddle.
Colin Little’s local Foreplay filly debuted in May at Mornington with a win before a Caulfield third on July 4 and her win a fortnight later over the 1200m at Flemington over Gold Symphony who races in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Saturday’s Melbourne meeting.
The other single figure hopes in Quezette Stakes betting this year are then another undefeated filly in Miss Gunpowder ($7) who heads towards a run in the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at the track on Caulfield Guineas Day (October 10) and Giulietta ($9) who is first-up this weekend.
Adelaide horseman Phillip Stokes prepares Pendragon filly Miss Gunpowder has won both her starts back home at Morphettville and makes her interstate debut in the Quezette Stakes from a wide barrier 10 draw with Dwayne Dunn replacing SA apprentice Emily Finnegan in the saddle.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Giulietta meanwhile jumps from gate nine with Kerrin McEvoy to ride the daughter of Snitzel who is also 2015 Thousand Guineas-bound this spring.
She hasn’t won since her debut success back in January at Rosehill and is first-up looking to atone for her ninth to stablemate and Blue Diamond runner-up English in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) in March.
Other notable Quezette Stakes hopes this weekend at juicy prices for an upset include Stream Ahead ($16) in barrier three who comes off a second to Petits Filous from August 1, Reward For Effort filly Take Pride ($17) and Robert Smerdon’s Group 3 winning daughter of Sebring Thurlow ($19) who will only improve of what she does here.
