Rising three-year-old Fleur Fatale has quickly stamped her claims as a serious racehorse for Brent Stanley, and the Sutton Grange-based trainer has revealed she will be set on a bold path towards Group 1 success during the upcoming 2015 Spring Carnival.
Fleur Fatale performed well amongst notable competition in a pair of regional Victorian barrier trials prior to her competitive debut in March and April but more than announced herself to racing with an impressive two lengths in at Caulfield on debut on April 18th.
Jumping from the gates well in the Vobis Gold Ingot (1200m), jockey Michael Walker settled the Commands filly within the field of sixteen; allowing the race’s early leaders to set a fair tempo away from the barriers and approaching the turn.
Receiving a competitive run in transit, Fleur Fatale appeared to be blocked for a run momentarily upon arriving on the final straight, but mustered a huge turn of foot to hit the line comfortably in the clear of closest rival Danuki.
Stanley has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Fleur Fatale and is hopeful she can progress into a serious stakes horse during the 2015 Spring Carnival.
“Her condition is really nice,” Stanley told Racing Ahead.
“She’s done a bit of pace work this morning; she had a gallop Tuesday morning.
“She’s not quite getting revved up – she’ll probably have a first-up run at Moonee Valley in mid-August just in a three-year-old fillies 1200m race and then build her preparation up.”
Stanley has underlined the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10th as the race he will set Fleur Fatale for this time, but remains hopefully she will progress further into three-year-old staying races.
“She’s got to make the next step and improve but all going well she’ll be third or fourth-up in the Thousand Guineas,” he said.
“Then we’ll go Wakeful, Oaks and fingers crossed she ticks all the boxes and does everything right.”
