Torvill is tipped as the three-year-old filly to...
In-form local two-year-old Counter Pulse is the headline nominee for the feature race in Adelaide this Saturday, the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained youngster shooting for three on the trot in the Lightning Stakes 2015.
A set weights race open to two and three-year-olds to see out the winter racing black-types at Morphettville Racecourse, this year’s $100,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) attracted 19 earlier entries.
Despite the bumper number of hopefuls already in the mix, the Lightning Stakes nominations have been extended until 10am on Tuesday morning.
Currently there are seven juveniles nominated to face off against the three-year-olds in the sprint feature including Hard Spun gelding Counter Pulse who comes off back-to-back wins.
Third to Prince Of Brooklyn in the Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) at the track in mid-May, Counter Pulse went on to win at the same track and distance over his own kind on May 30 and then won again at Morphettville Parks on July 4.
There are three other last start winners among the Lightning Stakes nominations with the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Starspangledbanner filly Classy Chanel from Flemington who has had just the two starts including a Geelong win at the start of the month, the Mark Riley-trained Starcraft filly I’m A Flying Star and local hope Trupt.
After Counter Pulse the other highest rated nominees for Saturday’s Adelaide feature include Peter Moody’s Mossman filly Pink Perfection with two wins from 13 starts so far, Group performed Down The Hatch prepared by Robbie Griffiths at Cranbourne and the Phillip Stokes-trained Caro Kann.
Denman gelding Caro Kann has had six starts to date including a fourth behind Atlanta Miss in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in Adelaide back in March, a Caulfield win over 1100m and his last start third in the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on April 11.
Other notable hopes include Bay Road who has a good record at the track and distance (5-1-0-2) and Wild Rain whose 1050m record is excellent with four wins, a second and a third from nine previous runs.
Prepared in Melbourne by Mark Kavanagh three-year-old Manhattan Rain filly Wild Rain was last seen crossing an equal second with Angels Beach behind Miss Promiscuity in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield at the start of the month.
While Moody’s former Adelaide stakes winner Angels Beach runs at Caulfield again this weekend in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), Kavanagh brings Wild Rain to South Australia for her second run at Morphettville.
Her other was at this track and distance in May for a tidy two length win over Cashed with Damien Oliver in the saddle before two solid Moonee Valley runs in June.
