Set to run as Race 6 at 3:27pm (AEST) on Saturday afternoon, a field of 12 hopefuls is set to face off in this year’s $100,000 Listed Tattersall’s Mile Handicap (1640m).

Leading the latest Tattersall’s Mile betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au at $5.50 in a tight affair is the Tony Gollan-trained last start Sunshine Coast winner Trakstar.

He is drawn out wide in gate 11 for veteran hoop Jim Byrne however and so there could be value further down the Tattersall’s Mile odds.

The next best in betting with genuine claims are the rails-drawn Epic ($6) out to atone for a luckless run behind Saturday’s favourite at the Sunny Coast, the Brian Smith-trained top weight Jetset Lad ($7) and Little Brown Horse ($8) lining up for her 53rd career start.

With so many livewire hopes in the mix who do you sack and who do you sack in the Tattersall’s Mile this weekend?

#11 Blue Lion ($9)

For value we are leaning towards the genuine market mover Blue Lion who has been smashed in from $11 to $9 despite having the outside alley to overcome on the weekend. Over the mile there is time to make up the ground though and that’s what many are banking on this Paul Duncan-trained Zabeel six-year-old to do. The lead-up form is good including a fourth over the track and distance just last Saturday from the same alley (12). Is on the improve, distance suits, gets in on the 54kg minimum and is on the short turnaround but is a classy former Singapore galloper who looks on track for a Black-Type win down under.

#3 Trakstar ($5.50)

Narrow favourite, this local Stratum five-year-old accounted for many of these same rivals over the Caloundra mile a fortnight ago and is seeking back-to-back winter wins. Needs to handle barrier 11 and 54.5kg after doing it from six with half a kilo less last time out, but neither of those are a big issue. Has a solid record over the track and distance (11-3-2-2), Byrne knows his way around Brisbane better than anyone and his booking can only be seen as a positive. This galloper ran well last start and ticks enough boxes to suggest it’ll be a fighting finish.

#7 Tornado Miss ($8)

So many hopes for the placings but Tornado Miss catches the eye in gate six with Timothy Bell, who rode stablemate Trakstar to victory last time out, in the saddle. Gollan’s Snitzel mare was runner-up two back over 1630m here in the Listed Spear Chief Handicap defeated a nostril flare before a sixth at the Gold Coast over 1800m on Tattersall’s Tiara Day. She’s had a few weeks off to freshen up, is back to her preferred distance and loves the mile (9-3-2-0) so with that in mind she’ll be in the finish for sure.
