Set to run as Flemington Race 8 at 4:10pm (AEST), this winter’s $150,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) originally featured a 13-horse final field.

The early scratching of the rails-drawn General Truce though has left a dozen sprinters in the mix, the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au a super tight affair with six single figure hopes.

Currently leading the All Victorian Sprint Series odds at $6.40 is Hard Romp who now takes up the position in barrier one, Ciaron Maher’s consistent five-year-old coming off four straight top three runs.

After a Rod Johnson Handicap win at Flemington Hard Romp was last seen racing third to Lonrockstar in a heat for the series on June 27 when beaten under a length in the Takeover Target Tribute Handicap.

The other favourites in All Victorian Sprint Series Final betting are the Adelaide-trained market mover Nearest To Pin ($7), Decircles ($7.50), Takeover Target Tribute winner Lonrockstar ($7.50) and runner-up in that lead-up Nadeem Lass ($7.50) with a wide gate to overcome on Saturday.

With such a logjam of genuine hopefuls in the markets who do you get on for the win this weekend?

1st

#7 Lonrockstar ($7.50)

Nice lead-up form from this improving John Sadler-trained Lonhro five-year-old. Last time out narrowly defeated a number of these same rivals in the latest Heat of the series with Craig Williams, 54kg and barrier nine. Should get a gun run in the rematch this weekend from an ideal barrier three draw and Williams staying on. Only goes up one kilo too so at no real disadvantage there as he shoots for his first win over the distance after a number of close calls (6-0-3-1). Was finishing off well last time out over the 1100m so think the margin could improve with an extra 100m here.

2nd

#10 Nadeem Lass ($7.50)

Tipping the same quinella as in the Takeover Target Tribute with Robbie Griffiths’ class mare Nadeem Lass to run second again. She won Bendigo’s Gold Bracelet (1400m) back in March and since then has proved a perennial placegetter with two thirds, including in Adelaide’s Group 3 Proud Miss over the 1200m in mid-May, and two seconds. The two seconds were behind the big dangers for Saturday’s final when three-quarters of a length off Hard Romp on June 13 and then a nose off Lonrockstar on June 27. Goes up from 52.5kg to 54kg and has a wide gate but is still a livewire hope with jockey Glen Boss taking over for apprentice Katelyn Mallyon.

3rd

#3 Hard Romp ($6.50)

The narrow favourite ticks plenty of boxes and don’t think there will be much in the finish. Is drawn ideally in barrier two with apprentice Michael Dee rewarded for his recent good riding, in-form trainer Maher keeping him on despite this being a non-claiming race. Dee has ridden Hard Romp for his four most recent runs for two wins, both at Flemington, and two thirds including the June 27 run behind Lonrockstar (1st) and Nadeem Lass (2nd). Will improve though having had a wide barrier 10 draw that day but does go up from 55.5kg to 57.5kg.
