Two smart three-year-olds are currently installed as the co-favourites to win the 2015 AR Creswick Series Final at Flemington Racecourse this weekend on Finals Day.
Due to run as Flemington Race 2 at 12:20pm (AEST), this winter’s edition of the $120,000 Listed A.R. Creswick Series Final (1200m) features a small field of just the nine hopefuls, two of which are battling for outright favouritism.
In the latest AR Creswick Series Finals odds at Ladbrokes.com.au Husson Eagle and Rough Justice, drawn at opposite ends of the field in barriers eight and three respectively, are installed as the co-$3.70 favourites.
Both have come in from an identical opening price of $3.80 and come off last start victories.
The Patrick Payne-trained Husson gelding Husson Eagle backed up from a nice fourth when under two lengths off the winner Nicoscene in Adelaide’s Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) before winning the AR Creswick Series Heat 3 over 1000m at Flemington by a nose on June 13.
The Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Rough Justice was second past the post that day but improved when beating home Lord Esprit on June 27 over 1100m to take out Heat 5.
The Wanted gelding did it from gate eight with Katelyn Mallyon riding and on Saturday should appreciate a better barrier with Damien Oliver taking over in the saddle.
In a fairly open market there are three other single figure hopes in AR Creswick Stakes betting this year including Face Forward ($4.80) who Dwayne Dunn will ride from barrier six.
A stablemate to the better-fancied Rough Justice, Charge Forward filly Face Forward also hails from the local Ellerton – Zahra stables and comes off a fifth to her stablemate when beaten one and three-quarter lengths in the lead-up heat from late last month.
She’s got a gun record at Flemington (4-2-1-0), has won over the distance (5-2-1-0) and will relish dropping back from 60kg to 56.5kg on Saturday for the final.
Rounding out the chances under $10 are then the rails-drawn Illustrious Lad ($6) for Moe trainer Darryl Blackshaw and the David Brideoake-trained Our Harmony ($8.50).
I Am Invincible gelding Illustrious Lad has run fourth in his three most recent runs since mid-May including the past two at Flemington behind Husson Eagle over 1000m and Rough Justice over 1100m respectively with Craig Williams, who retains the ride this weekend, aboard.
Our Harmony has apprentice Harry Coffey riding in the black-type, the consistent Nadeem filly from Mornington having won three of her past four stats including over 1100m at Caulfield just last Saturday.
