Rock Royalty Takes out 2015 Ramornie Handicap

Talented sprinter Rock Royalty has delivered trainer Liam Birchley another impressive 2015 black type win this afternoon; producing an impressive turn of foot to take out the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Chris Whiteley immediately led the Elusive City gelding towards the fore of the capacity field sixteen; setting a noticeably quick tempo alongside Rocket To Glory away from the barriers and towards the turn.

Offered a clear racing line upon arriving on the final straight, Rock Royalty quickly spooled up and charged clear; never appearing in doubt and maintaining a strong enough sprint to hit the line more than a length ahead of Godolphin runner Barbed; Rocket To Glory boxing on for a brave third.

Birchley was understandably thrilled with Rock Royalty’s performance for success in the 2015 Ramornie Handicap and believes the rising seven-year-old continues to find career-best form.

“I brought Sir Breakfast here a few years ago and he got the job done but I haven’t had many runners here for quite a while,” Birchley said after the race.

“I really thought we were up against it from the barrier today.

“He’s a progressive nearly seven-year-old and I haven’t had many of them but it’s amazing how he’s kept improving and I can’t believe the way he’s doing it.

“He’s just been an amazing horse and he’s just racing with so much confidence at the moment.”

Rock Royalty carried winning form into the 2015 Ramornie Handicap after taking out the Ipswich Dash (1100m) on June 13th and Birchley revealed he was confident the form would stack up at Grafton this afternoon.

“He ran a track record and beat a horse that came out and won very impressively again since then so the form was good,” Birchley added.

“Barriers here, they do usually win from there. Takeover Target did but I wouldn’t put him in that class.”
