All Victorian Sprint Series Final 2015 Field Features Hard Romp

One of the in-form sprinters in the mix for the 2015 All Victorian Sprint Series Final at Flemington Racecourse this weekend is the Ciaron Maher-trained Hard Romp who has also come up with a gun barrier for the lucrative showdown.

Due to run as the penultimate event on the nine-race Flemington Saturday program, this year’s $150,00 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) runs as Race 8 at 4:10pm (AEST) and has attracted a 13-horse final field.

One of the sure-to-be favourites in the All Victorian Sprint Series Final betting markets at is Hard Romp, the in-form Hard Spun five-year-old drawn a treat in gate two with apprentice Michael Dee in the saddle.

A winner over 1100m at Flemington on June 13 over Nadeem Lass, Hard Romp was last seen running third over the same track and distance a fortnight later with 55.5kg from gate 10 when beaten under a length.

He is allocated two kilos more for the weekend with 57.5kg, the same weight allocated to the Ricky Maund-trained General Truce who gets the rails run from gate one with Steven Arnold in the saddle.

Heading the All Victorian Sprint Series Final weights with 60kg is locally-trained Desert Jeuney who is second-up after a first-up fourth to Lonrockstar on June 27 where Nigel Blackiston’s Desert King five-year-old had the same weight.

Third in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield last October Desert Jeuney was third again in Moonee Valley’s Crystal Mile before his dead last when pulling up lame in the Emirates Stakes during November’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.

There are two last start winners in the mix including the horse that beat many of these same rivals home in Flemington’s $80,000 Takeover Target Tribute Handicap (1100m) two weeks ago, the aforementioned Lonrockstar.

The John Sadler-trained Lonhro five-year-old carried 54kg to a narrow win that day with Craig Williams in the saddle and this weekend shoots for two on the trot with Williams staying on.

Lonrockstar has a nice gate four draw and only goes up a kilo to 55kg as he looks to again hold off the close runner-up in the Takeover Target Tribute, Robert Griffith’s flying mare Nadeem Lass.

She is on the 54kg minimum on Saturday with Glen Boss in the saddle but has suffered an early blow drawing wide in gate 12.

A five-year-old daughter of Nadeem, she has run top three in her past seven runs including a third in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide in mid-May before a second to Hard Romp and second again to Lonrockstar at Flemington over 1100m during June.

Also drawn wide with the outside alley to overcome meanwhile is the other last start winner in the mix, the Trent Pennuto-trained Smackdown in barrier 13.

The Towkay six-year-old is undefeated this time in with wins at Geelong and then Sandown-Hillside so is up in class this weekend with the wide gate after jumping from barriers two and one respectively for the recent victories.
