The capacity field of 16 sprinters is due to face off in Grafton Race 7 at 3:55pm (AEST), betting at Ladbrokes.com.au on this year’s $150,000 Listed Crowe Horwath Ramornie Handicap (1200m) led by the firming I’ve Got The Looks.

After opening as long as $4 in the Ramornie Handicap odds, the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained daughter of Choisir has been smashed by the punters right in to $3.60.

Drawn out in gate 11 with veteran hoop Robert Thompson booked for the ride, five-year-old I’ve Got The Looks won back-to-back stakes races in Queensland before her failed eighth in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 23.

She’s tipped to improve when back down in distance today however after a freshen-up.

Also at single figures in the Ramornie Handicap betting markets today are Kris Lees’ Group 3 winning mare Thump ($7) drawn well in gate three, the John O’Shea-trained Barbed ($9) drawn one on her inside in two and the massive market mover Le Cap ($9.50).

Set to jump from the inside alley with Glyn Schofield in the saddle, Le Cap opened at a juicy $18 before firming right into his current $9.50 price, the Darryl Hansen-trained Exceed And Excel five-year-old coming off successive Queensland wins from last month.

So do the bookies have it right or is there an upset Ramornie Handicap result on the cards this afternoon from a longer priced hope such as the Lee Curtis-trained Turbulent Jet ($11) coming off back-to-back seconds at Rosehill, classy Group 1 performed Gold Coast-trained mare Bound For Earth ($12) or Tony Gollan’s visiting Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes third placegetter from Brisbane Rocket To Glory ($13)?

1st

#6 Bound For Earth ($12)

Going for the value in the field in this Toby Edmonds-trained Northern Meteor four-year-old who comes off a string of ace runs and is looking for a well-deserved win. Third in the Group 2 Dark Jewel at Scone in mid-May, third again in Doomben’s Group 2 Dane Ripper then finished fourth to Srikandi in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) last time out. Back down to 1200m will suit and after the Group 1 class this looks an easier assignment. She’ll need luck from out in barrier 13 but her lead-up form and the juicy price are too good to ignore.

2nd

#10 Le Cap ($9.50)

Anyone that locked in this galloper at the $18 being offered earlier could be laughing this afternoon with the always-honest and super-consistent gelding the big market mover. Improved off a couple of disappointing runs from May to win at the Sunshine Coast over this distance on June 8 and then again at Rockhampton beating Steel Zip, a worthy rival, by a length and a half. Had 58.5kg on his back and will be flying with 55.5kg from the inside alley and Schofield taking over riding duties. Ticks plenty of boxes.

3rd

#4 I’ve Got The Looks ($3.60)

Deserving favourite will take some beating but needs to improve on last start when 1350m proved too tricky in Group 3 company. Has 56kg, a good weight for this mare who has had 58.5kg on her back at her two most recent runs including the Doomben Junamo Stakes win over the 1200m back in early May. Eight from 20 to date, this distance is ideal (14-7-1-2) and first-up record is outstanding so should be spot on after a brief freshen-up.
