Miss Promiscuity Wins 2015 Monash Stakes – Results

The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained mare Miss Promiscuity scored an upset 2015 Sir John Monash Stakes win at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse over the weekend adding to her ace record at the track and distance.

The four-year-old daughter of Magnus jumped a $12 outsider in betting for this winter’s $150,000 Group 3 PFD Food Services Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) after her last start eighth over 1200m at Moonee Valley in early June.

She easily atoned for that loss however when returning to Caulfield on Saturday at a track and distance she has now won two of her three starts at, finishing second in the third.

Ridden by Dwayne Dunn Miss Promiscuity ($12) enjoyed a drop back from 60kg last time out to 56.5kg in the weight-for-age Sir John Monash Stakes, overcoming her wide barrier 12 of 12 draw to salute on the Soft (5) track.

She had an easy two and three-quarter lengths to spare over the Peter Moody-trained Angels Beach ($6.50) who dead heated for second with Mark Kavanagh’s progressive Manhattan Rain filly Wild Rain ($11).

Miss Promiscuity has now won five of her 14 career starts for over $340,000 in prize money and co-trainer Dabernig confirmed her next likely assignment as the $150,000 Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) back at Caulfield on July 25.

Dabernig said there could be pressure from the mare’s owner/breeder Robert Crabtree to retire the mare and send her to the breeding barn, but that he and Hayes would like to continue racing her with the hope of collecting another Group 3 win ahead of a Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival campaign.

“Certainly from our point of view we’d like to race her on, there’s no reason to say that she would need to go to stud,” Dabernig told Racing.com’s Correct Weight.

“I know now that she’s a Group winner it would probably by tempting for Rob but I think there’s some lovely races for her through the spring.

“Her next likely start is probably the Bletchingly at Caulfield in three weeks… and then there’s some really nice races in the early spring for her if she’s still going well enough.”

Last year the former Peter Moody and then Anthony Cummings-trained Miss Promiscuity was sent to stud but since coming back Hayes & Dabernig have done a marvelous job reinvigorating her career.

“She was a nice pick-up for the stable, she was formerly trained by Peter Moody and then Anthony Cummings,” Dabernig said.

“The story is she went off to stud and didn’t get in foal and then Rob thought he’d give her another try.

“We’ve only had her for the five starts and she’s been in the money all of them except one – the start before at Moonee Valley.”
