Due to jump as Grafton Race 7 at 3:55pm (AEST), this year’s $150,000 Listed Crowe Horwath Ramornie Handicap (1200m) field features 16 confirmed starters plus two emergencies.

A host of last start winners are in the mix including the Tony Newing-trained Timeless Prince who comes off a victory in the Winter Dash (1200m) run on a Heavy (10) Randwick track on June 20.

The five-year-old only carried 54kg to victory that day so will need to improve going up to 55.5kg with in-form apprentice Winona Costin booked for the Ramornie ride, Timeless Prince also looking to overcome a wide barrier 14 draw.

At the opposite end of the field with the rails run from barrier one is the Darryl Hansen-trained Queensland visitor Le Cap also on the 55.5kg minimum.

Top hoop Glyn Schofield partners Exceed And Excel five-year-old Le Cap who travels from the Sunshine Coast after two Queensland winter wins in June over 1200m at home and 1300m at Rockhampton.

Heading the Ramornie Handicap weights with 58kg is the Mario Caltabiano-trained Malavio who also has the outside alley for the Snitzel six-year-old’s returning run.

Following in the weights are then the Tony Gollan-trained Brisbane visitor Rocket To Glory (57.5kg) and Stephen Lee’s Lonhro seven-year-old Territory (57kg) drawn in barriers seven and four respectively.

Rocket To Glory could be one to watch on Wednesday, the six-year-old son of Shovhog having his maiden Grafton run on the back of a good third to Dothraki in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast from June 20.

Also coming off nice lead-up runs are the likes of Toby Edmond’s Northern Meteor mare Bound For Earth and Turbulent Jet.

Third in Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) and then Doomben’s Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) earlier this campaign, four-year-old Bound For Earth drops in class this week having run fourth to Srikandi at the Gold Coast last time out in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

The Lee Curtis-trained Turbulent Jet has run second in his two lead-up runs at Rosehill on Soft (7) tracks over 1200m in BenchMark 85 class, form he will look to improve on when tested in the Ramornie in better company.

Other notable Ramornie Handicap hopes include Clarry Conners’ Gai Waterhouse Classic placegetter Fare Well, the Kris Lees-trained Thump, Liam Birchley’s last start Ipswich winner Rock Royalty, and local hope Single Chance who has a gun record at the track and distance (4-1-3-0).
