Civic Stakes 2015 Betting Tips & Selections

In Sydney on Saturday a field of smart off-season sprinters will face off in the Civic Stakes 2015 at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, betting tips for the handicap clash found below.

Running as Race 6 at 3:05pm (AEST) on the winter race card this weekend, the $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) field is at capacity with a dozen in the mix including first emergency Medcaut who comes in for the scratched Rose Of Choice.

Leading Civic Stakes betting at at a firming $3.10 in from $3.40 is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained WJ Healy Stakes winner Dothraki who has work to do from out wide (12) with the top weight (59.5kg).

Three other runners join Dothraki at single-figures in the Civic Stakes odds with the Paul Perry-trained Wouldnt It Be Nice ($9) who will be ridden cold by jockey Thomas Huet, winner at the track last weekend Two Blue ($8) drawn wide in gate 13 and the in-form Joe Pride-trained veteran galloper See The World ($9).

So will those under $10 in the markets get the job done for the punters or is there value to be found tipping an upset Civic Stakes result from the likes of Melbourne raider Royal Island ($10), the Chris Waller-trained Hawkesbury Gold Cup placegetter Rugged Cross ($11) or the rails-drawn Haussmann ($13)?

#3 Dances On Stars ($14)

Good value in the Gerald Ryan-trained Dances On Stars who is on the improve and has been thereabouts without winning this season. Looking back to April ran a brave third behind subsequent dual Group 1 winter champion Srikandi in the Victory Stakes at the Gold Coast and most recently was fourth to fellow Civic Stakes rival Dothraki in the WJ Healy Stakes at the Gold Coast. Has won over the 1350m before and drops a kilo from 57kg to 56kg making him a livewire chance to turn the tables on his last start conqueror if he comes on well from the back late.

#1 Dothraki ($3.10)

Dothraki has the class but needs to overcome a wide gate and big weight to score his second on the trot after the Mossman four-year-old won the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes last time out. Goes up from 58kg to 59kg and has a jockey change with Blake Shinn coming aboard for the weekend. Can still present a big danger as one of the backmarkers who will get into the fast lane and come home late off a pace likely set by Two Blue.

#10 Two Blue ($8)

This Kristen Buchanan-trained Dubleo mare from Wyong won at the track just seven days ago adding to her solid Rosehill record (9-2-2-0) and can run top three on the short back-up if she runs out the distance. Has won up to 1500m so the 1350m should be a non-issue even from up on the speed where apprentice Winona Costin is likely to take the mare from the wide barrier (14).
