The Ramornie Handicap 2015 is the feature sprint showdown of next week’s Grafton Cup Carnival and nominations and weights for the lucrative winter event are now out.

Set to light up Grafton Racecourse next Wednesday, July 8, this year’s $150,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) has attracted a bumper 32 nominations with two gallopers installed as the equal 59kg top weights.

Sitting top of the Ramornie Handicap weights are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Dothraki and Rodney Northam’s Scone-based gelding Big Money.

Last start winner of the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast from June 20, Team Snowden’s Mossman four-year-old Dothraki races in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill this weekend and is the current $3.40 favourite to win through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Big Money meanwhile is a five-year-old son of Choisir whose last start was a seventh behind Srikandi in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 where he had only 53.5kg on his back.

The next heaviest weighted of this year’s Ramornie Handicap nominations with 56.5kg are the Con Karakatsanis-trained Howmuchdoyouloveme, who hasn’t won since the 2013 WJ Healy Stakes, and fellow six-year-old Malavio whose last start was a dead last in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick back in April.

Along with Dothraki, the Snowdens have also nominated for Choisir mare I’ve Got The Looks who won back-to-back Queensland black types over 1200m before an eighth at Doomben in Group 3 company last time out on May 23.

There’s a host of last start winners in the mix also coming off far better lead-up form including the Andrew Parramore-trained local Single Chance.

The progressive four-year-old improved on a failed Ipswich run on June 13 when returning home to Grafton he won by two and a quarter lengths over 1215m on Thursday, less than a week out from the Ramornie Handicap test.

Other Ramornie nominees who won their last runs include Gosford-based Winter Dash winner in the mud at Randwick on June 20 Timeless Prince, Two Blue who runs in the Civic Stakes this weekend as a $9 hope at Ladbrokes and the Kris Lees-trained Brook Road who won first-up at Rosehill.

The Newcastle-based Lees also has entered his four-year-old Red Ransom mare Thump who was beaten under a length last time out when fourth to Excellantes in the Listed Hinkler Handicap with 57kg at Doomben at the start of June.

Other in-form Ramornie Handicap nominees this winter include the Tony Gollan-trained WJ Healy Stakes third placed Rocket To Glory, Clarry Conners’ recent Gai Waterhouse Classic placegetter at Ipswich and Bound For Earth.

Now based on the Gold Coast, the Toby Edmonds-trained Northern Meteor mare Bound For Earth ran third in Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic in May and Doomben’s Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes in June before her last start fourth at home in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
