Lovethebeaches Leads 2015 Queensland Cup Field

The Queensland Cup 2015 runs at the Sunshine Coast this Saturday as one of the weekend’s headline races and leading the field for the two mile feature is the in-form Lovethebeaches.

Due to run as Caloundra Race 6 at 3:17pm (AEST), the $150,000 Listed Hutchinson Builders Queensland Cup (3200m) attracted a final field of nine stayers.

To wear the number one saddlecloth and drawn in the outside alley is the Steve Hodge-trained Dubai Destination mare Lovethebeaches.

The six-year-old has won two of her past three starts and is proven over the testing 3200m distance having saluted over it last time out in Sydney.

On June 6 at Royal Randwick jockey Paul King, who retains the ride this weekend, guided her to an impressive five length victory in the $100,000 Stayers Cup (3200m) run on a Soft (7) track.

In that convincing win she displayed her true staying ability and looks ready to fire this weekend shooting for back-to-back victories over the distance despite the increase from 54kg last time out to 58kg.

All nine final acceptors in this year’s Queensland Cup field are allocated the same 58kg weight in the handicap clash including the race’s other last start winner Barge And Charge drawn one inside of Lovethebeaches in gate eight.

Glen Colless has the ride on the Andrew Williamson-trained Stratum gelding now prepared locally but who has had just the one previous run at the Sunshine Coast track.

That was two back when the five-year-old finished fifth behind Miss Husson over 1800m on June 3, an effort he improve don when winning over 2213m at Rockhampton in a BenchMark 70 on June 20 carrying a hefty 60kg.

Also coming off good lead-up form is David Vandyke’s Husson four-year-old Husson Choice, the gelding having run third in his two most recent runs.

The first of those was behind Lovethebeaches in the Stayers Cup before he was dropped back to 2600m and ran on a Heavy (10) course at Randwick to cross over four lengths behind the winner Soviet Courage.

Husson Choice will have Brisbane-based hoop Tegan Harrison aboard this weekend and jumps from barrier two, while the rails run in the Queensland Cup belongs to the Michael Moroney-trained import Mister Impatience.

Robbie Fradd rides the Hernando five-year-old, a winner at Ballarat in late May carrying 58kg to a huge seven length victory over 3000m.

His final lead-up was in the same BenchMark 75 that Husson Choice ran third in, Mister Impatience crossing a distant fourth in the 2600m lead-up.

Other notable Queensland Cup hopes this winter include the Bryce Heys-trained Major Major coming off a sixth in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup (2400m) at the Gold Coast and fifth in that same race Monaco Doll to be ridden by Ryan Wiggins from gate four on Saturday.
