Capacity 2015 Civic Stakes Field Released

A capacity field of middle-distance sprinters is engaged to face off in the feature race at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend, the Civic Stakes 2015 the latest black-type on the Sydney Winter Racing Carnival program.

Running as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:05pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) will have a dozen in the starting line-up plus there are three emergency runners waiting for a scratching to make the cut.

To wear the number one saddlecloth and carry the 59.5kg top weight is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Dothraki who has drawn barrier 13 but will jump from 11 if the spares come out.

Last time out the Mossman four-year-old scored his fifth career win with success in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on June 20, an effort he’s out to repeat here over more distance at a track where he boasts a good record (5-1-3-0).

Also coming off a win and drawn one outside of Dothraki in the Civic Stakes with gate 14 is the Kristen Buchanan-trained Dubleo mare Two Blue.

The six-year-old from Wyong was runner-up over 1200m behind Fiftyshadesofgrey carrying 58.5kg two back before winning on a Heavy (8) Rosehill track only last Saturday with a kilo less.

Buchanan is still in search for a Civic Stakes jockey for Two Blue with his most recent rider Paul King engaged for the Queensland Cup up at the Sunshine Coast this weekend, but the drop back to the 54kg minimum and everything else is spot on for the mare on the short seven day turnaround.

Also drawn wide are the Chris Waller-trained stablemates Rugged Cross (15) and Diametric (11), the former a Tye Angland ride coming off some good winter form.

Cape Cross six-year-old Rugged Cross ran third on June 7 in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) before a fifth behind Beauty’s Beast at Rosehill last Saturday over 1500m.

Waller has also accepted for the returning Said Com, a six-year-old son of O’Reilly who hasn’t raced since finishing second last behind Heart Testa at the track last November.

Joe Pride has engaged the services of top hoop Hugh Bowman for his Civic Stakes runner See The World who is drawn in barrier eight and is after a first win this prep, the veteran Danzero eight-year-old last seen running third at the track on June 20 behind Timeless Prince in the Winter Dash (1200m).

Other notable Civic Stakes runners this winter include the Gerald Ryan-trained WJ Healy Stakes fourth placed Snitzel five-year-old Dances On Stars, Paul Perry’s recent June Stakes winner Wouldnt It Be Nice and John O’Shea’s Commands gelding Haussmann who should get a gun run from gate two.
