Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Just nine runners will line up for tonight’s Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2012m) on Day 2 of the 2015 Royal Ascot Carnival; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
The Dermot Weld-trained Free Eagle has appeared on course only four times competitively but remains clear $3.70 favourite in 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Ectot ($6) and The Grey Gatsby ($7).
Will Free Eagle justify favouritism and win the 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Australian contender Criterion has undoubtedly found career-best form this year, will find his perfect racing distance in the 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and offers great value for money at current $9 odds for success. More than announcing his racing arrival over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, highlighted by consecutive wins in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m), the son of Sebring finished in the minors in each of the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) upon resuming this time; taking out the featured Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
The Grey Gatsby ($7)
Classy local The Grey Gatsby has finished outside the first three only a handful of times in his 13 start career, has found typically good form in the lead-up to the 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and will leave from the rails draw. Stamping his claims as a serious racehorse through a standout 2014 campaign, the Mastercraftsman entire won the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey Club (2100m) early in his campaign; progressing to another standout victory in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes (2012m) in September. Having run a close second in the Group 1 Dubai Turf (1800m) first-up this year, The Grey Gatsby boxed on for a credible fourth in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (2112m) most recently on May 24th.
Gailo Chop ($11)
Owned by Australia’s OTI Racing, Gailo Chop has been confirmed to travel to Victoria for a campaign geared towards the 2016 Cox Plate (2040m) and is sure to figure as a leading chance for success if successful in the 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. Finishing outside the first three only once in ten career starts, the Deportivo gelding has appeared on course competitively just once this year but finished a close second in the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan (1850m) on that occasion.
The 2015 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is due to jump approximately 1:20am AEST tonight.
