Srikandi in Peak Condition for Tattersall’s Tiara

Srikandi responded to two forgettable starts at the highest level in the best way possible when taking out the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) a fortnight ago, and will reportedly line up for Saturday’s 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in peak condition.

A standout performer for Victoria trainer Ciaron Maher in recent seasons, Srikandi returned to racing this time for an impressive win in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast on April 25th but failed to make anything of an impact when eighth in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and sixth in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) leading into her Stradbroke Handicap triumph.

Understandably thrilled with her most recent effort, Maher told The Courier Mail the daughter of Dubawi has continued to progress over the last fortnight and will line up for the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara in even-greater condition.

“Her coat has come on since the Stradbroke and she will run every bit as good in the Tiara, if not better,” Maher said.

“She loved the Gold Coast and pings out really well around there; I feel the track really suits her.

“She ran the Stradbroke out really strong to the line and I am sure she will be running Saturday’s race out just as well.”

Confirmed to line up alongside the likes of Catkins and standout three-year-olds Lumosty and Najoom, Maher concedes Srikandi does face a tough task in posting a second-consecutive win in the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara but is confident in her abilities.

“The three-year-old of Gai’s (Najoom) is a quality horse who gets in well into the Tiara,” Maher said.

“Lumosty is another class horse and she was well in the betting mark of the Stradbroke but things really didn’t go to plan for her.”

The standout performer of the 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival, Srikandi won each of the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) on the Gold Coast, Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) on her way to a credible third in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Included amongst a list of 24 nominees on Monday, Srikandi is expected to be confirmed in a capacity 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara final field on Wednesday morning.
