Hazard Fighting Fit for Tattersall’s Tiara

Talented mare Hazard posted a career-best victory in her Brisbane Winter Carnival debut a fortnight ago and has reportedly continued to improve in the lead-up to Saturday’s featured Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on the Gold Coast.

Posting a commendable race record of ten wins and a further five minors through her 25 career starts so far, Hazard has undoubtedly found her best condition to date over five starts this time and will be chasing a third-consecutive black type win in the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara having taken out both the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) in recent weeks.

Revealing Godolpin Australia’s Henry Plumptre wanted to retire the daughter of Flying Spur following her Proud Miss Stakes triumph, co-trainer Lee Freedman has been thrilled with the work produced by the five-year-old in recent weeks and believes she has more than earned her shot at the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara.

“Henry wanted to retire her after her win in the Proud Miss in Adelaide,” Freedman told AAP.

“I convinced him to let me take her up to Queensland and now she’s a Group Two winner.

“Whether she’s up to the Group One company I’m not sure.

“But she’s in great form and deserves her shot at it.”

Beginning her racing career under the sole guidance of Anthony Freedman in early 2012, Hazard undoubtedly stepped-up a gear over the 2014 Autumn Carnival; running third in the Listed Hareeba Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) before taking out the Bendigo Gold Bracelet (1400m).

Unable to post much of a consistent run of form through four spring starts despite finishing a credible fifth in the Listed Black Pearl Classic (1200m) in late October, Hazard returned this time for success in the Grand Hotel Frankston BM90 (1000m) on April 1st; overcoming a luckless run for seventh in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) when taking out the Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap (1100m) a fortnight prior to the Proud Miss Stakes.

The 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
