Wandjina Ready for Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Talented three-year-old Wandjina produced a career-best campaign through the 2015 Autumn Carnival and has reportedly taken well to his time aboard in the lead-up to the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) during the Royal Ascot Carnival next week.

Wandjina stamped his claims as one to watch over a strong 2014 campaign for trainer Gai Waterhouse, but returned this time for success in the Group 3 CA Hayes Stakes (1400m) on February 21st before posting a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) a fortnight later.

Having booked his ticket abroad with an impressive effort for second behind Dissident in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 18th, Waterhouse wrote on her blog the son of Snitzel continues to impress at his Newmarket base in the UK and should be perfectly-suited to the 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes conditions.

“Wandjina arrived in England on my coat tails,” Waterhouse wrote.

“The colt has not put a foot wrong since he arrived. He has had a look around at his magnificent surroundings, and at his most recent piece of work, the colt was the only horse (and we were the only people) for miles.”

“I think he is right in this race up to his eyeballs (in the Diamond Jubilee).”

“It’s an uphill 1200m and you need to be a very strong sprinter or a good miler to run up that hill.

“He’s a Group 1 winner over a mile and a Group 1 place getter over 1400m so to me he ticks every box.”

Winning a Warwick Farm minor over 1000m before finishing fourth in each of the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) and Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old, Wandjina posted several impressive results through the 2014 Spring Carnival highlighted by a credible third in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and subsequent berth in the Cox Plate; albeit an unsuccessful tilt.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes odds, for which Wandjina can be taken at a quote of $10 for success.
