2015 Eye Liner Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

Only eleven sprinters will contest Saturday’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at The Ipswich Turf Club but as a result, punters are offered particularly good value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Group 1 winner Smokin’ Joey ($4.20) is yet to find particularly competitive form since returning from a brief freshen-up but has maintained status on the top line of Eye Liner Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Nite Rocker ($4.60) and Ulmann ($5.50).

Will Smokin’ Joey return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Eye Liner Stakes or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Ulmann ($5.50)

Unlucky not to make the final field for last weekend’s Group 2 Queensland Guineas, Ulmann is primed for a competitive performance in the 2015 Eye Liner Stakes, will leave from the ideal barrier 6 and will carry a race-low 54kgs. Having won the Chocolate Hangover BM70 (1600m) on April 6th, the Sebring colt finishing fourth in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) before running a close second to subsequent Group 1 champion Winx in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) last time out.

2nd

Smokin’ Joey ($4.20)

Smokin’ Joey has been charged with carrying a race-high 59.5kgs in the 2015 Eye Liner Stakes but his class is sure to count for a lot within this field of eleven. Having taken out the 2014 edition of the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m), Smokin’ Joey returned this year for fourth in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m); progressing to success in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) before finishing a close second in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m). Likely to find good running position from barrier 7, the Encosta De Lago gelding will be partnered by local veteran Damian Browne.

3rd

Pillar Of Creation ($10)

Pillar Of Creation looks likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 2 in the 2015 Eye Liner Stakes and offers exceptional value for money at current $10 odds for success or $3.20 to finish in the first three. Running fifth in a Gold Coast minor over 1400m on March 14th, the God’s Own gelding boxed on for a close second in the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) on May 2nd before running third in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1300m) on May 16th. In-form hoop Luke Tarrant will take the ride on Pillar Of Creation, who will carry only 54kgs in the Eye liner Stakes.
