Having initially underlined a tilt at the Rockhampton Newmarket on June 18th for the talented gelding, trainer Tony Sears has confirmed Pillar Of Creation will take his place in Saturday’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1200m) at Ipswich after drawing the ideal barrier 2.
Posting six wins and a further ten minors through a competitive 31 start career so far, Pillar Of Creation has found typically good form over four starts this time; unlucky to finish outside the minors in his first two starts before placing second in the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) and third in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1300m) most recently.
Hoping the Ipswich Turf Club will experience notable rain in the lead-up to Saturday’s card, Sears has been thrilled with the condition of the God’s Own gelding this time in and is confident he is a leading chance for success in the 2015 Eye Liner Stakes.
“If he had drawn wide in the Eye Liner he would have certainly been heading for the Rockhampton Newmarket,” Sears told AAP.
“But he gets into the Eye Liner on the minimum weight and from a good barrier. He has won four times around the 1350 metres and he has had no luck since coming to us.
“It is the right sort of form for a race like the Eye Liner and it isn’t the strongest Listed race we have seen this winter.
“David Moodie who owned him in Melbourne told me he is six lengths better on a soft track.
“Pillar Of Creation has won five times on soft going so we can hope the rain is a bit heavier than predicted.”
Having started his racing career under the guidance of Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Pillar Of Creation posted several commendable results over the 2014 Spring Carnival; namely beating classy fields to the line in each of the Sportingbet Best Tote Plus Handicap (1200m) and Sheen Group Handicap (1400m) in Victoria.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Eye Liner Stakes odds, for which Pillar Of Creation can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $10 for success.
