Husson Eagle Primed for Flemington Return

Talented three-year-old Husson Eagle has posted several commendable results for Patrick Payne this year and Plumpton trainer is confident he is in the right condition for a maiden race win at Flemington in Saturday’s AR Creswick Series Heat 3 (1000m).

Posting two wins and a further four minors places through his ten career starts so far, Husson Eagle returned this year for success in the Bill Collins Handicap (1000m) on April 4th; progressing to a credible fourth in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) most recently on May 9th before returning for a brief freshen-up.

Having reportedly worked well in the lead-up to Saturday’s Flemington appearance, Payne told AAP he is confident Husson Eagle’s proven ability over the straight course will count for a lot this weekend and believes booking apprentice hoop Jordan Childs, who will make a 2kg claim, will also pay dividends.

“I’d be confident he’ll run really well,” Payne said.

“He’s not a very big horse and this time of year if you don’t claim and they claim around you, it can leave you out on a limb a bit.

“Whether we go to this race and then give him a freshen up and pick out a race in the spring or whether we keep going now, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Debuting for an impressive second behind Bring Me The Maid in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) early in the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Husson Eagle continued to impress in running fourth in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) and second in each of the Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (1000m) and Carbine Club Plate (1000m).

Returning in spring for a maiden success in the Bendigo Horse Of The Year Plate (1100m), the Husson gelding ran third in the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) before undoubtedly producing his most impressive performance to date when fifth in the major Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) down the Flemington straight.

The 2015 AR Creswick Series Heat 3 final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday today.
