2015 Queensland Guineas Betting Tips

Outside of the hat-trick of Group 1 races on the Doomben program for Saturday one of the key Stradbroke Handicap Day support acts is the Queensland Guineas 2015, betting tips for the three-year-olds’ showdown detailed below.

Set to run as Race 5 at 1:42pm (AEST), this year’s $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1600m) field is at capacity with 16 starters plus five emergencies.

The latest Queensland Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au on the set weights clash feature six single figure hopes led by Bede Murray’s Not A Single Doubt gelding Sure And Fast ($5.50) who ran a luckless seventh in the Inglis Guineas at Scone last time out and the Kelly Schweida-trained Monashee Mountain filly Miss Cover Girl ($6.50).

A winner of seven of her 13 career starts to date, local hope Miss Cover Girl is a Group 3 winner in Sydney and comes off a second to Najoom in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben from a fortnight ago.

So will the first two in Queensland Guineas betting run the quinella on Saturday afternoon or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of market mover Ulmann ($7.50) for Peter Moody who ran second to subsequent Queensland Oaks winner Winx in the Sunshine Coast Guineas last time out or even James McDonald’s mount Awesome Rock ($11) with a wide barrier to overcome on the back of a Fred Best Classic third?

1st

#11 Miss Cover Girl ($6.50)

Plenty to like about the consistency and lead-up form of the local filly in a gun barrier three draw with top hoop Glen Boss riding. She won the Group 3 PJ Bell in Sydney three back and after a fifth in the Mick Dittman when returning to Brisbane she was brave when second to Waterhouse’s smart winner Najoom in the Fred Best. She’s up in distance and if she handles the trip she’ll be running home strongly to the line and hard to hold out.

2nd

#6 Good Project ($8)

Still one of the ones to beat despite drawing the outside alley, this Not A Single Doubt colt is from the form stable of the season (Chris Waller) and comes off a fifth to Mohave when beaten only 1.4 lengths in black-type company at the track on May 30. On the short turnaround and up in distance but has previous good form over the mile (2-1-1-0) and was really impressive late here last week. He’ll be giving away the start from the barrier but if he closes hard with 400m extra to make up the ground remains a threat.

3rd

#17 Ulmann ($7.50)

The money is coming for Moody’s in-form galloper who opened at double figures before firming right in. Has the perfect draw in barrier six with Luke Nolen riding and great lead-up form. Won over the mile at in Melbourne three back before coming to the Sunshine State and finishing fourth in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) at the Gold Coast before a second in the Sunshine Coast Guineas. That form held with Winx’s Oaks victory and Ulmann will be out to further frank it this weekend.
