Frequendly Leads 2015 Lancaster Stakes Field

Les Ross’s local hope Frequendly leads a quality field of fellow two-year-old fillies that will face off in one of the support races on the Stradbroke Handicap Day program in Brisbane this Saturday – the Lancaster Stakes 2015.

The nicely-drawn daughter of Sequalo has come up with barrier four of 15 in this year’s $100,000 Listed James Boag’s Premium Lancaster Stakes (1200m) with jockey Brad Pengelly engaged for the ride on the filly who is second-up this campaign.

She resumed on May 16 at the Sunshine Coast in the Listed BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) and was second past the post behind Real Good when beaten two and a half lengths, a margin she will be hoping to close on the weekend at Doomben.

There are two last start winners in this year’s Lancaster Stakes field with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Flippant in barrier five for jockey Hugh Bowman and the widely-drawn The Bee’s Knees for the Sunshine Coast’s Stuart Kendrick who has the outside alley to overcome.

A winner of two of her four career starts to date, Hinchinbrook filly Flippant was last seen taking out the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Scone in mid-May by a notable margin, form she’s hoping to bring to Doomben on Saturday.

The Bee’s Knees meanwhile has in-form apprentice Luke Tarrant riding from gate 15 of 15 after the young jockey guided the daughter of Jet Spur to victory over 1025m on debut at Ipswich on May 27.

Kendrick has also accepted for two other runners on the weekend with the unraced Divine Centuri out in gate 12 and the well-tried Banda Spice coming up trumps with the inside alley.

Show A Heart filly Banda Spice has had eight starts to date for two wins, top local hoop Damian Browne staying on after riding her into third behind Sugar Hit at home over 1200m last Friday.

Also coming off nice lead-up runs are the likes of the Gatton-based Roxy Rhythm drawn a treat in barrier two for Jeff Lloyd to ride in her first stakes assignment, Snitzel filly Nilette who ran second to The Bee’s Knees on debut last time out and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Harlem River.

Tommy Berry is booked to partner Waterhouse’s promising daughter of Fastnet Rock who won back-to-back Randwick trials before debuting in the Woodland’s Stakes to run second to Flippant.

She is drawn in gate nine for the rematch and will be fitter for her debut run and out to turn the tables on her last start conqueror.

Also likely on the improve is Matthew Dunn’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic fourth placed Madotti who is well down in class off an 11th to Blueberry Hill in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at the same track and distance when beaten 4.5 lengths a month ago.
