Capacity 2015 Queensland Guineas Field Released

A capacity field of three-year-old milers is engaged to face off in the Queensland Guineas 2015 this Saturday as part of the Stradbroke Handicap Day action at Doomben Racecourse.

Set to run as Doomben Race 5 at 1:42pm (AEST), this year’s $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1600m) features 16 confirmed starters plus five emergencies awaiting a scratching to make the cut.

Despite the bumper field there are just two last start winners among the final Queensland Guineas acceptances and only one assured of a run.

Third emergency is the Jason Coyle-trained Final Decision coming off a Randwick win over 1300m but it is the Bart & James Cummings-trained Tree Of Life who will definitely be shooting for successive wins.

Tim Clark has the ride on the in-form Street Cry filly who has won two of her past three starts but is drawn wide in barrier 18 (into 13 with emergencies out) on the weekend.

Her last start was on a Heavy (10) at Randwick where she on over 1400m on May 23, her second from as many starts on mud tracks.

Other three-year-olds drawn wide in the Queensland Guineas this year include the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Awesome Rock (17) coming off a third to the now-spelling Najoom in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m), Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel colt Time For War (20) and the Chris Waller-trained Good Project (21) who Tommy Berry is booked to ride.

Time For War kicked off his winter with two good seconds in Queensland when prepared by Stuart Kendrick but his latest start was a well-beaten 13th when eight lengths off Boban in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 23.

He is back against his own age in easier company for Saturday and is also back with his original Sydney-based trainer Ryan after new connections sent him back.

Good Project meanwhile has the outside alley to overcome as the Not A Single Doubt colt looks for his first win since a 1600m victory at Randwick back in January, his lead-up run being a fifth behind Mohave when beaten only one and a half lengths in the Listed Queensland Day Plate (1200m) at the track last weekend.

Coming up with more favourable Queensland Guineas barriers are the likes of the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Adelaide raider Deiheros (1), recent Hawkesbury Guineas third placed All American colt Bachman (2) and the Kelly Schweida-trained Miss Cover Girl (3).

Glen Boss has the mount on Monashee Mountain filly Miss Cover Girl, the in-form local after her first win since travelling to Sydney to take out the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) in the wet at Randwick in early April.

Since then the smart filly has had two runs back home at Doomben when fifth to Kuro in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1200m) and then second to Najoom in the Frank Packer Plate two weeks ago.

Other noteworthy Queensland Guineas chances this winter include Kelly Purdy’s Gold Coast-based Murt The Flirt who has run second in his two most recent lead-ups, The Roses third placed Whatalovelyday out to atone for a 10th behind Winx in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) last weekend and the Tony Gollan-trained Group 1 runner-up Traveston Girl.
