Kicking off the action as the opening race on the nine-event card on Saturday in the Sunshine State, this year’s $100,000 Listed Coca Cola Amatil Hinkler Handicap (1200m) is due to jump at 11:22am (AEST) and features a final field of 13 hopefuls.

One of the top fancies is Wood’s Not A Single Doubt four-year-old Into The Red who resumed with a first-up win in the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) at the same track and distance on May 23.

Two weeks between runs looks ideal for the gelding who jumps from gate six on Saturday with jockey Ryan Wiggins retaining the ride, but the galloper going up from 54kg to 56.5kg.

The Hinkler Handicap field and weights are led by the Robert Heathcote-trained Excellantes who is drawn well in gate three for his hoop Michael Cahill to ride on 58kg.

After his first win since the Listed Falvelon Handicap (1200m) in late February, seven-year-old Excellantes has three previous wins for a dozen attempts at the 1200m at Doomben and comes off a fourth behind Into The Red.

The other most notable Ascot Handicap graduate in the Hinkler Handicap rematch on Stradbroke Day is the Brian Smith-trained runner-up Bymonashee who was beaten two and a quarter lengths in the lead-up.

He only goes up half a kilo to 54.5kg for Saturday and will jump from barrier nine with Larry Cassidy retaining the ride, the jockey aboard in gate one in the Ascot Handicap.

Also high up the weights for the opener this weekend is the Kris Lees-trained Thump (57kg), the four-year-old Red Ransom mare out to atone for her 10th in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) first-up at Scone in mid-May.

Coming off a better lead-up meanwhile is the Team Hawkes-trained Fastnet Rock three-year-old Kaepernick, the gelding having won at Rosehill over 1200m on May 9 before his second behind Savoureux in a Benchmark 79 in Sydney last Saturday.

Other noteworthy Hinkler Handicap final acceptors for this winter include the Jason McLachlan-trained eight-year-olds Facile Tigre and Phelan Ready who are drawn wide in barriers 10 and 13 respectively and looking to improve on some pretty poor recent form.
