Avoid Lightning has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and trainer Les Bridge has confirmed she will line up for a tile defence of her crown in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Returning for a credible third in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1200m) on February 21st, Avoid Lightning failed to make anything of an impact when tenth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) on March 21st before responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on April 11th.
Having finished mid-pack in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) most recently, Avoid Lightning appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle and will be tough to beat in the 2015 June Stakes should the Randwick track experience inclement weather over the coming days.
In-form hoop Josh Parr has been confirmed to take the ride on Avoid Lightning in the 2015 June Stakes, replacing regular rider Tim Clark who is in Brisbane for Stradbroke Handicap Day on Saturday, and is thrilled to be offered a leading chance for success.
“I’m lucky to pick up a ride on such a quality mare,” Parr told AAP.
“I know it’s a one-off. She is Timmy’s ride but he will be in Queensland and I’m excited to ride her.
“It was great news to get and I hope it rains all week.”
Posting eleven wins and a further seven minors through 27 career starts so far, Avoid Lightning was a standout over the 2014 Autumn and Winter Carnivals; winning each of the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) and June Stakes and finishing second in the Sapphire Stakes most notably before ending her campaign third in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
Allocated a race-high weighting of 60kgs, Avoid Lightning was included amongst a talented list of 26 nominations for the June Stakes on Monday.
The 2015 June Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
