Running as Queensland Oaks Day Race 5 at 2:37pm (AEST), this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Magic Millions QTC Cup (1200m) features eight runners with the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the Joe Pride-trained Ball Of Muscle who has firmed in from $3.50 to $3.20.

Drawn on the rails with Glyn Schofield to ride, the super-consistent Dubawi four-year-old has won seven from 12 to date and while this will be his first run at Doomben he’s got a gun record over the 1200m of two wins, two seconds and a third from five starts.

This time in he has run second in both his starts including behind last year’s Stradbroke Handicap third placegetter Srikandi in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast on Anzac Day.

That was his latest run so he’s had a four week freshen-up, the gelding doing his best racing fresh, and he has been kept ticking over with a winning Randwick barrier trial at the start of this week before his return to the Sunshine State.

Following Ball Of Muscle in the QTC Cup betting markets closely is his younger stablemate Kuro ($3.40) coming off a win at the track and distance but heavily weighted for a three-year-old colt with 57kg compared to Ball Of Muscle’s 56.5kg.

So will Pride run the QTC Cup quinella on the weekend or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained That’s A Good Idea ($4) who won at Scone last time out?

#4 Ball Of Muscle ($3.20)

The money is coming for this ultra-consistent four-year-old who is deserving of the top spot in the markets and hard to tip against. Will get the gun run from the inside alley with Schofield in the saddle, and is out for his first win of the season after two close seconds. Runs brilliant fresh and the four weeks since the Victory Stakes second will suit to a tee. The distance is ideal (5-2-2-1) so everything is working for him, the on-pace galloper set to lead all-the-way to the finish line.

#1 El Roca ($10)

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young’s New Zealand raider was below par first-up when racing for the first time in a year to finish 11th (of 13) in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m). Back at the same track and distance second-up with fitness on the up and the class of his contenders down – two big ticks. This Fastnet Rock stallion is a multiple Group 1 placegetter in Sydney from last year including his third in the George Ryder Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill. Is two-from-three over Saturday’s distance and if improves and gets back to that kind of form can surprise at a nice price on the weekend.

#7 Office Bearer ($13)

At these odds happy to add the Peter Moody runner in over Kuro who is a bit hit-and-miss for our liking. Glen Boss rides five-year-old Office Bearer from a good barrier four draw second-up, the stallion boasting a good record two runs in (5-2-0-1) he’ll be looking to add to here after a third at the Sunshine Coast on May 16 behind Falino in the Listed Bribie Handicap (1000m).
