JJ Atkins Hope Look To The Stars Wins 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes

Sydney’s Clarry Conners will likely be sticking around this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival for the JJ Atkins on Stradbroke Handicap Day after his tough young filly Look To The Stars scored an upset in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2015 at Doomben Racecourse.

The daughter of I Am Invincible is really still in her opening preparation, the $250,000 Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) her eighth career start for just her second win.

A very impressive improver, she ran a solid fourth at the Gold Coast in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) on Anzac Day before her luckless 10th to Blueberry Hill in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 9.

A bad barrier 15 of 15 draw got the better of Conners’ filly in the Champagne Classic, but from a good gate three draw with apprentice Luke Tarrant in the saddle Look To The Stars was able to turn the tables on her last start conqueror in the BRC Sires’ Produce.

Chris Munce’s local colt Wicked Intent flew out of the barriers and was the early leader from the likes of In His Stride and the Liam Birchley-trained Pepperano also moving up quickly on pace, Look To The Stars not far off them.

There was plenty of speed on in the race where Look To The Stars was settled beautifully on the fence in fifth, the Champagne winner Blueberry Hill just off her in seventh waiting to make a move.

On the bend for home Blueberry Hill started coming down the outside while the well-supported Counterattack was caught in traffic unable to get a clear run on the straight.

Over the closing stages it was the fast-finishing fillies flying down the outside who stole the show, Look To The Stars ($17) and Blueberry Hill ($4.60) coming with their runs together to the line.

In the end it was the Sydney visitor who got home ahead of Birchley’s Myboycharliefilly Blueberry Hill who was brave in defeat having been ridden three deep into the breeze throughout by jockey Larry Cassidy.

Halfway down the straight Blueberry Hill was coming with momentum and looked the winner but she couldn’t withstand the big challenge from the winner who did an excellent job when stepped up in distance with the mile now calling.

In third it was $101 roughie Cylinder Beach, Desleigh Forster’s local Showcasing gelding having just his third career start and his first run since a fifth to Typing in Toowoomba’s Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m) from the start of the month.

Look To The Stars is sure to storm up the futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au now for the $600,000 Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) back at the track on June 6, the last two-year-old to complete the double being Sizzling (2012).
