Easy 2015 The Roses Win for Oaks Bound Bohemian Lily

Gai Waterhouse’s flying Sydney filly Bohemian Lily is the one to beat in next week’s Queensland Oaks back at Doomben Racecourse after she gave her rivals a good old fashioned spanking to win The Roses 2015 on Doomben 10,000 Day.

Following the early scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Ballet Suite from the $175,000 Group 2 Urbis The Roses (2020m) the clear favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au was Lisa Latta’s NZ Oaks runner-up Platinum Witness.

The Kiwi form simply didn’t stack up however ruling out Platinum Witness and the fellow New Zealand-trained Exquisite Jewel, also disappointing in The Roses, from the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) back at the track next Saturday, May 30.

Instead the new favourite in early Queensland Oaks betting could be Waterhouse’s daughter of O’Reilly Bohemian Lily ($4.40) who backed up from a second to Ballet Suite in the Listed Princess Stakes (2000m) from May 9 to score a four length The Roses win over the Ben Currie-trained Col ‘N’ Lil ($17).

Finishing off the distant The Roses trifecta in third was then Whatalovelyday ($26) for trainer Jon Walk, but really it was all about the runaway winner.

Returning to the winning form that saw her defeat Col ‘N’ Lil in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) from April 25 in the same quinella repeated in The Roses, Bohemian Lily was settled into second by jockey Blake Shinn in behind the leader Lead Husson.

She was over on the outside and taking over as the front runner with 1000m left to go while Col ‘N’ Lil, the consistent daughter of Bradbury’s Luck coming off a Gold Coast Bracelet second and Princess Stakes fourth, zooming up into second.

Into the straight Bohemian Lily held a big margin and had far too much left in the tank down the straight to give anything making up ground any chance of running her down.

Instead the winner sped off to give Waterhouse the exact result she was after having likely instructed Shinn to lead at all costs and run them into the ground, which they did with The Roses winner destroying her rivals on way to the Oaks.

The Roses has produced all but one of the past 10 Queensland Oaks winners making Bohemian Lily’s form the one to following going into the Group 1 where her main dangers will be the Chris Waller-trained duo of Ballet Suite and Sunshine Coast Guineas winner Winx.
