Running as Race 5 at 1:57pm (AEST) on the Doomben 10,000 Day card, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (2020m) field still features a capacity 16 starters after the scratching of Freezelightning saw stablemate Sam De Hero get a call-up.

Firm favourite in from $4.60 to $3.40 in the latest Grand Prix Stakes betting markets at is the Chris Waller-trained Sadler’s Lake drawn the outside alley but coming off a good one and three-quarter victory at the track in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) from May 9.

Following Waller’s High Chaparral gelding in the Grand Prix Stakes odds are the likes of Sunshine Coast Guineas third placed Choisir colt Worthy Cause ($6.50) and Darren Weir’s last start Caulfield winning grey Master Of Arts ($7.50).

So will the first three in betting be the first three over the line in Saturday afternoon’s Grand Prix Stakes result or is there value to be found in a longer priced hopeful such as Gerald Ryan’s Hawkesbury Guineas third placed colt Bachman ($9) with the nice barrier two draw or even the Peter Moody-trained Rough Habit runner-up Upham ($12)?

#10 Master Of Arts ($7.50)

Not sure about the form coming out of the Rough Habit this year so shying away from it with our tip for first going to Weir’s lightly raced but progressive Mastercraftsman colt who has won two of his four career starts to date. Latest win was over 2000m at Caulfield on May 2 defeating All I Survey. Yet to race in Queensland or in stakes company but is on the improve and the distance looks ideal. Liked what he did in Melbourne last time out and if that form comes with him to the Sunshine State think he can do some damage at good odds.

#2 Worthy Cause ($6.50)

Out wide in barrier 14 but time to overcome the gate, this John Zielke-trained colt has good form at the track (4-1-2-0) and winning form in Group 3 company over 1800m from the Gold Coast’s Gunsynd Classic on April 25. After that went home for the Sunshine Coast Guineas back down over a mile and did well to run third to Queensland Oaks favourite Winx. Will appreciate stepping back up in distance for this and should be firing late.

#3 Bachman ($9)

Plenty of respect for Ryan’s nicely drawn son of All American who jumps from barrier two with Michael Cahill in the saddle. Is third-up here and ready to strike on the back of a last start third to Najoom in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) at Rosehill run on a Soft (7). Handles all types of track, distance will be the test but if he eats up the metres can salute at juicy odds.
