Freedman Pleased With Reparations Ahead of The Straight Six

Trainer Lee Freedman has been thrilled with the work produced by Reparations in recent weeks and is confident he is a competitive chance of success in Saturday’s Listed Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington.

Reparations has posted an impressive ten wins and four minors through 30 career starts so far, returning for a credible fourth behind the likes of Lumosty in the All Victoria Sprint Series Heat (1100m) on May 9th.

Conceding he will have to substantially improve from his first-up effort if to match it with Lumosty in the 2015 Straight six, Freedman told Racing Ahead he is confident jockey Ben Melham will be able to find a good position in running despite the allocation of barrier 13.

“He’s got to find a few lengths to beat Robert Smerdon’s filly (Lumosty), the way she won the other day,” Freedman said.

“I do think he will make improvements going to the 1200m but then I expect she probably will too.

“He’s got a task ahead of him but he is a very good straight horse and he’s going well.

“I would expect the way Flemington dries and with the rain we’ve had this week we’re probably looking at a good 4 or a soft 5.

“I would prefer to get a bit of cover with him – he sort of races a bit when he’s out on his own and that’s not an easy task at all from a barrier such as 13.”

Reparations was unable to figure when 15th in last year’s edition of the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), but Freedman confirmed another tilt will be taken into serious consideration if the Godolphin runner is successful in the Straight Six.

“The top of the list would be the Stradbroke, but he would want to run tremendously well and then we’d have a look at the potential weight drop into the Stradbroke and have a look at the weather up there,” he said.

“I really think these days as an older horse, he’s a better horse when there’s give in the ground.” is currently offering the best 2015 Straight Six odds, for which Reparations is available at a quote of $11.
