2015 Premier’s Cup Betting Tips & Selections

To get the top racing action of Doomben 10,000 Day underway in Brisbane on Saturday a small but classy field will face off in the Premier’s Cup 2015, betting tips for the handicap clash found below.

The opener at Doomben Racecourse is due to jump at 11:32am (AEST) with a field of just eight facing off in this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Channel 7 Premier’s Cup (2020m).

Favourite in the latest Premier’s Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.50 for the win is the Peter Moody-trained 59kg top weight Wish Come True who comes off a fourth to subsequent Doomben Cup winner Pornichet in the Toowoomba Cup (2150m) from May 2.

He carried 56.5kg that day so the step up in weights is notable but the bookies are taking no chances with the Aussie Rules five-year-old whose lead-up form in the cups races is very consistent.

Four other runners in the race are also at single figures including the market mover Baligari ($6 into $4.20) from the Adelaide stables of Lloyd Kennewell but with a lead-up Brisbane run, Canberra Cup winner Faust ($4.40) coming off a Wagga Wagga Gold Cup second from the start of the month and the rails-drawn Hvasstan ($4.60).

So will the best in betting be first past the post this weekend to kick off a cracking race card at Doomben or is there value further down the Premier’s Cup betting markets this year?

1st

#6 Hvasstan ($4.60)

Hvasstan has the run of the race from the inside alley in this small field, the Tony Gollan-trained local stallion coming off a fourth behind Bewhatyouwannabe in the Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) at Doomben on May 9. The Fastnet Rock five-year-old has winning form up to 2040m so this distance, coming off a mile run, should be ideal. Also well weighted on 54.5kg with Tommy Berry to ride. Berry was also aboard last start (on 54kg) when they drew wide in gate 12 of 12 so with a better barrier and similar weight looks set for improvement.

2nd

#1 Wish Come True ($3.50)

Moody’s five-year-old has the ideal lead up. Ran second in the Kilmore Cup and Yarra Valley Cup before a Mornington Cup fourth and then the fourth in the Toowoomba Cup, the form coming out of that latest run franked when the winner went on to take out the Group 1 Doomben Cup a fortnight ago. Goes up in the weights but has the class the bookies are tipping to stack up here even with the kilos. Addition of Glen Boss in the saddle also helps out here, Boss replacing Glen Colless who rode the galloper to the Toowoomba Cup fourth last time out. Will be fitter off that though so maybe the extra kilos won’t be an issue?

3rd

#7 Baligari ($4.20)

Money is coming for the visiting Adelaide raider in barrier six who has been backed in from $6. In on the 54kg minimum again after carrying that for a third back home in the Listed City of Adelaide Stakes (1400m) on Anzac Day and a close fourth when under two lengths away in the Members’ Handicap last start. He was unlucky in that run, his first in Brisbane, and should take nice improvement out of it heading into this.
