The $250,000 Group 2 Mitavite Australia BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) is due to jump as Doomben Race 6 at 2:37pm (AEST) and features a final line-up of 16 hopefuls.

Leading the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at a current quote of $4.80 is Blueberry Hill, a local Liam Birchley-trained filly who has won two of her three career starts to date including the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben last time out.

It’s a tight BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting market and the other shortest priced hopefuls are Wicked Intent ($5) who only needs luck from the wide barrier 14 draw, the lightly-raced filly Payroll ($5.50) and the Chris Waller-trained colt Counterattack ($6).

That’s the story the bookies are telling but is there value to be had tipping an upset BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes result?

#1 Wicked Intent ($5)

Jockey-turned-trainer Chris Munce now prepares this Wicked Style colt who has won three from six to date, the longest distance win being 1050m. He was competitive however over 1200m when runner-up to Blueberry Hill in the Champagne Classic, defeated only a half-length after jumping from a wide barrier 12 (of 15) draw. Doesn’t get a gate here either out in 14, but if jockey Damian Browne does a good job at the track he knows so well this colt has enough class to overcome the barrier.

#4 Bring A Secret ($10)

Drawn at the opposite end of the field with the inside alley, the money is starting to come for this Nick Olive-trained Canberra-based Sebring gelding who has had just the three runs to date. The latest was a 1250m win at Canterbury on May 13, so has broken the maiden status now. This is his first start in Queensland and in black type company but think showed enough last time out to suggest from the gun gate can be competitive here in a good field with Glyn Schofield in the saddle.

#9 Blueberry Hill ($4.80)

The favourite filly has definite claims based on her record to date that shows three wins from four starts. Larry Cassidy rides the daughter of Myboycharlie for the third time on the trot having saluted in the Group 2 here with her last time out on May 9. Beat a number of these home there and must be respected again on the weekend with her form outstanding.
