Queensland Oaks Fancies Highlight The Roses Final Field

15 classy fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of some of several leading contenders for Saturday week’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks.

Ballet Suite won the key form-indicating Listed Princess Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago and has been confirmed in the 2015 The Roses final field.

Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times in eight career starts, Ballet Suite found great form over the Autumn Carnival; winning the TAB Place Multi BM70 (1600m) on March 11th before running a commendable fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (200m) a fortnight later.

While unable to handle the late pace when eighth in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), the High Chaparral filly’s most recent performance, allocation of the central barrier 8 and confirmation she will be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy means she will be tough to beat in the 2015 Doomben Roses.

Bohemian Lily ran a close second in the Princess Stakes last time but will need some luck in running in The Roses after drawing the somewhat awkward barrier 11.

Beginning her racing in her native New Zealand, Bohemian Lily was transferred to the care of Gai Waterhouse after finishing a credible fifth in the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) and fourth in the Group 2 Royal Stakes (2000m).

Debuting in Australia for second in the Drummond Golf BM67 (1600m), the O’reilly filly posted a maiden black type in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) in her only other start prior to the Princess Stakes on April 25th.

Waterhouse is confident Bohemian Lily is the one to beat in the Queensland Oaks and has confirmed Blake Shinn for the ride on Saturday.

Kris Lees included two fillies in nominations for The Roses, but has confirmed only leading contender Fitocracy will take her position in the Group 2 race on Saturday.

Fitocracy was won two of 13 career starts so far; finishing in the minors a further five times.

Capping a strong Spring Carnival a credible fourth in the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1400m) on November 15th, the Denman filly won the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 18th before a luckless run for ninth in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (200m) on May 2nd.

Sure to relish a step-back in class, Fitocracy will also need luck from barrier 12 but is sure to be boosted by the addition of renowned jockey Tye Angland in The Roses.

Leading kiwi filly Platinum Witness is yet to appear on course competitively in Australia but is the highest rated horse confirmed in The Roses final field and is sure to lay a great account for herself from barrier 7.

Claiming four wins and seven minors from 15 career starts, the California Dane filly won both the Listed Armadillo Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas (1600m) most notably over an impressive spring preparation in New Zealand.

Returning this time in similarly devastating form, Platinum Witness won each of the Listed Group 3 Gold Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 Lowland Stakes (2100m); placing second in both the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) and Listed Rotorua Stakes (1400m) most recently.
