Capacity Field Confirmed for BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes

16 talented two-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse including several previous black type winners and leading contenders for the Group 1 J.J. Atkins in a fortnight.

Blueberry Hill returned to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) two weeks ago but will need some luck in running in the 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce after drawing the slightly wide of centre barrier 10.

Winning each of the Centenary Classic Mercedes Benz Plate (1050m) and a 2.y.o Handicap race over 1200m upon debuting this season, Blueberry Hill was luckless in running in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) on April 25th but managed to box on for a close second.

Confirmed to be partnered by regular hoop Larry Cassidy, the Myboycharlie filly is primed for continued success in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Wicked Intent ran on for second in the Champagne Classic first-up and will be far better for the performance in the 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

The stable star of former jockey and bright-eyed trainer Chris Munce, Wicked Intent immediately stamped his claims as one to watch upon debuting in late 2014, winning his first three starts including the Listed Phelan Ready Plate (1050m) on December 13th.

Running second to Mishani Honcho in the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) before failing to match the late pace of Le Chef and sixth in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m), the Wicked Style colt has his work cut out from barrier 14 but is more than capable of success in the 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Trainer Chris Waller has unearthed talented two-year-olds Zoustar and Brazen Beau over the two most recent Brisbane Winter Carnivals and looks to be offered another leading contender in Counterattack, who will leave from the ideal barrier 6 in 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Finishing second amongst notable competition in a pair of Sydney sprints at the beginning of the year, the Redoute’s Choice colt won a minor over 1200m first-up this time before running a credible fourth in the Champagne Classic last time.

Sure to relish a step up to 1350m, Counterattack has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman on Saturday.

Typing undoubtedly faces her biggest test to date in the 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes but carries winning black type into the race after taking out the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m) by two lengths on May 2nd.

Failing to make an impact when seventh in the Auscredits Maiden Plate (1000m) on debut in March, the Sebring filly ran third in the Channel 7 Handicap (1200m) and is one of the only confirmed 2015 BRC Sires’ Produce contestants to have races over 1350m, having run third in the Racing Retro Handicap on April 4th.
