Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
Chris Waller has a number of livewire chances lining up across the Doomben 10,000 Day program in Brisbane on Saturday including possibly his last start Arrowfield 3YO Stakes winner Delectation who is nominated for the Ascot Handicap 2015.
One of nine races on the all black type program, this year’s $100,000 Listed Landfill Logistics Ascot Handicap (1200m) attracted 15 hopefuls.
There are two last start winners among the early entries for the handicap sprint including Waller’s smart Sydney visitor Delectation.
The progressive Shamardal three-year-old is a multiple Group 1 performer including his second to the now Royal Ascot-bound Brazen Beau in the Coolmore Stud Stakes last November in Melbourne.
His latest start was at Randwick during The Championships when winning the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) in the mud on April 11, form Waller is hoping he can bring to Brisbane when he looks to build on his good record over the distance (9-3-3-1).
The other last start winner nominated for the Ascot Handicap on Saturday along with Delectation meanwhile is then the Donald Baker-trained Mr Favulous.
The Toowoomba-based Falvelon six-year-old was last seen taking out the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at his home track on May 2 and on the weekend he’ll be shooting for just his second win from 22 starts at the Doomben track.
Top Brisbane local Robert Heathocte has two entries in the race this winter with his last start Toowoomba runner-up Dream Of Slips and Excellantes.
Veteran seven-year-old Falvelon gelding Excellantes won the Listed race named after his sire back in February before a fourth in the Chief De Beers and then a disappointing 10th in the Weetwood he’ll be out to atone for here.
Tony Gollan also has dual nominees with recent Listed Chief De Beers Handicap (1110m) winner Rocket To Glory out to improve on his seventh to Srikandi in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast last month and Whiskey Allround who was third in the Chief De Beers and eighth in the Weetwood.
Other good local hopes include Chief De Beers runner-up Cape Kidnappers who has a solid Doomben record (10-4-2-1) including plenty of Group race placings, Darryl Hansen’s Sunshine Coast galloper Le Cap and the returning Cum Dividend for Liam Birchley.
Show A Heart six-year-old Cum Dividend hasn’t raced since early January when fourth to Gundy Son in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast.
He is yet to win first-up but does boast three minor placings from five resuming runs during his total 31-start career to date.
The official Ascot Handicap 2015 final field and barriers are due out on Wednesday and will be published right here at Races.com.au so stay tuned.
